The Triund Trek is one of the most scenic and beginner-friendly treks in India. Situated in the majestic Dhauladhar range, it offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. For adventure lovers in Delhi, it is a perfect weekend getaway. My recent trip to Triund Trek was a surreal experience filled with thrill, exhaustion, and immense joy. In this blog, I will take you through my journey, sharing every detail to help you plan your own trek.

Planning the Trip from Delhi

Living in Delhi, the daily hustle often makes you crave a break. When my friends and I decided on the Triund trek, excitement filled the air. We booked an overnight bus from Delhi to Dharamshala, which takes around 10-12 hours. From Dharamshala, we hired a cab to McLeodganj, the base point for the trek.

Things to Pack

Packing smartly is crucial for a smooth trek. Here’s what I carried:

A sturdy backpack

Trekking shoes with a good grip

Warm clothes (the weather gets chilly at night)

A rain jacket (mountains are unpredictable)

Water bottles and energy bars

A flashlight and power bank

Basic medicines and first-aid kit

Beginning the Trek – The Excitement Builds!

The trek to Triund starts from McLeodganj or Gallu Devi Temple, depending on where you choose to begin. We opted for the Gallu Devi Temple route as it is a bit shorter. The total trek distance is about 9 km, and it takes approximately 4-6 hours to reach the top.

As we started, the initial trail was a gentle walk through dense pine and rhododendron forests. The chirping birds and fresh mountain air made the journey feel magical. The first few kilometers felt easy, but as we ascended, the path became steeper and more challenging.

Midway Halt – A Refreshing Break

Halfway through, we reached a famous rest stop called Magic View Café. The view here was mesmerizing! Sipping hot tea while gazing at the towering snow-capped peaks was an unforgettable experience. This café has been serving trekkers for decades, and it is a must-visit spot.

The Final Stretch – Pushing Through

After the break, the real challenge began. The last 2 km of the trek were steep and tested our endurance. However, the breathtaking views motivated us to keep going. With every step, the excitement grew. As we neared the top, the sight of the vast green meadow of Triund filled our hearts with joy.

Reaching Triund – A Rewarding Experience

Finally, we reached Triund! The view was beyond words – rolling meadows, towering peaks, and the clear blue sky created a perfect postcard moment. We pitched our tents and rested for a while, soaking in the beauty around us.

As the sun set, the sky turned shades of orange and pink. The cold breeze made us huddle around a small bonfire. Stargazing at night was another highlight. The sky was filled with countless twinkling stars, making us feel tiny yet connected to the universe.

Descending Back – Bitter but Beautiful Goodbye

The next morning, we woke up early to catch the sunrise. Watching the first rays of the sun hitting the snow-covered peaks was magical. After a hearty breakfast, we started our descent. Going down was easier, but our legs felt sore from the previous day’s trek.

By noon, we reached McLeodganj, where we treated ourselves to delicious Tibetan food. Momos and thukpa never tasted so good! After some last-minute shopping in the local market, we headed back to Dharamshala to catch our bus to Delhi.

Final Thoughts – Why You Should Do the Triund Trek

The Triund trek is perfect for both beginners and seasoned trekkers. It is a short yet fulfilling adventure that offers stunning views, fresh air, and a break from city life. If you’re looking for a weekend escape from Delhi, this trek is a must-do!

Would I do it again? Absolutely! Every moment spent in the mountains was worth it. If you love adventure, nature, and peace, pack your bags and set out for this incredible journey.
