Finishing the Marufo Vega Trail and Admitting Defeat
Woke up hot, sticky and dusted with a fine layer of sand. I didn’t get a good night’s rest at all. Tossed and turned all night. The wind whipped the walls of the tent around and I had to tuck myself deep into my sleeping bag to keep from getting the grit in my eyes and mouth. When we woke up, we opened the doors of the tent, the air having gone still somewhere in the predawn hours and the humidity set in. There were tracks from the horses all around our tent. We packed up, trying our best to shake the sand from everything before stuffing it into our backpacks.

Trailer Trash
When I tell people “I am a full-time RVer,” almost 95% of the time I get a quick eyebrow raise and some praise. A lot of them will say, “Wow! I wish I could do that” or “I bet that is a cool lifestyle.” Overall, I receive many supporters. However, that 5% erks the $h!t out of me and have equated me to being “Trailer Trash.”

Route 66 still has Kicks!
Featured in the John Steinbeck classic "The Grapes of Wrath", the Dust Bowl era was a time of major migration to the west. Steinbeck dubbed Route 66 "The Mother Road" and the nickname stuck. It is a wonderful escape that takes the traveler to many times and places. For automobile buffs and history buffs, Route 66 is a must-travel, bucket list item. I bought the shirt pictured below during one of my relaxing drives across the country. The section of Route 66 between Kingman and Oatman, Arizona, known as the Arizona Sidewinder is exhilarating. Before I get farther ahead of myself along the route here, I'll backtrack to the beginning in my home state of Illinois.
