The city of Saint Louis

And the places you should visit!

By Cassandra Cowee Published 6 years ago 3 min read

As a Saint Louisian, I feel that for anybody ever looking to visit there (whether it be for business, pleasure or both). I think I would tell just about anyone the places they should see while visiting! It’s only fair to know the popular places to get the best out of a new city, right? Well here it goes....

1. The Saint Louis Arch, or also known as “The Gateway to the West”, a beautiful structure in the downtown Saint Louis area, surrounded by large buildings, parks and also the Mississippi River. There is a Museum inside, a blue water fountain and also the crazy elevators that take you up to the top of the Arch. What you’ll get is a beautiful view of Saint Louis city! One of my favorite spots to visit out of many.

2. Union Station- this gorgeous structure was once a train station way back in the day, today it contains the new and fabulous aquarium, a shopping mall and a restaurant. During the Christmas holidays, the polar express visits for about a month or so starting in the beginning of December. If you’re into history (I’m a history nerd) and you love older buildings, this would be a great place to check out!

3. The Saint Louis Zoo, being nationally titled the best zoo in the US, is also a amazing place to visit, whether you’re with your family, or a loved one. There are many things that the zoo has to offer. The zoo is equipped with multiple food kiosks, a build-a-bear workshop, a children’s zoo, a carousel and a train to take you throughout the zoo. Definitely worth a visit!

4. Budweiser brewery. This place is another one of my favorites, if you’re a fan of Budweiser, this would be the place to visit. Budweiser brewery has a tour where you visit where the beer is made, where they keep their beloved and gorgeous Clydesdales, you also get two samples of a beer of your choice at the end of the tour! Definitely the best part after a long walk!

5. Ballpark village- if you love baseball or any sport, visiting Ballpark Village is another place to enjoy sports and alcohol, places right beside Busch Stadium where the Cardinals play. It’s awesome to be there while they are playing and being able to watch and enjoy a nice bud light or whichever beverage you choose!

6. Grants Farm. Owned by the Budweiser brewery, this place is more like a smaller version of a zoo, there are animals, a plaza for eating and listening to music, camel rides as well as getting closer to the animals than you would at the zoo. There are also food trucks that are there during the summer time, so if the snack kiosks aren’t doing it, there are plenty of other choices as well. And for the adults, you also get two free beer samples (Curtesy or Budweiser). A great place to visit with the family.

7. Forest park, the giant park full of features as well as history as this was the place where the World Fair took place in 1904. Located in the park is a Art museum, history museum and a science center. There is also a place called “the jewel box” which is a greenhouse filled with gorgeous plants that are as beautiful as they are unique.

8. Missouri Botanical Gardens (also known as Shaw’s Garden) is a place that has beautiful landscaping features like flowers, ponds, fountains that are decorated beautifully. There is also a greenhouse and a kids playing area that is great for the whole family. It also has museums based on Henry Shaw, who previously lived on this gorgeous property. You’ll also see his mausoleum near his home in the park. Whether you’re there to spend time with your family or just to get a breath of fresh air, this would be the place to do it!

8. The City Museum- although it’s not really a museum at all, it’s mostly for kids and parents to see, there are lots of structures that you typically wouldn’t see at an art museum. But it definitely is worth seeing. The City Museum is full of fun, and also people who come to wear out their children before bed. The museum comes with multiple climbing areas, whether it be a bus on the roof or an airplane on the side of the building, massive ball pits, a roof top bar complete with a Farris wheel to overlook the city, slides, a man made built indoor cave, climbing areas that take you through different floors of the museum. It’s quite a place to visit if you want to have a good time!

If you plan on taking a trip to this beautiful and historic city and plan on site seeing, I hope you’ll visit these places and enjoy them just as much as I do!
