The Joys of Day of the Dead in Oaxaca, Mexico
Intro Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a hauntingly beautiful festival unique to Mexico. It combines the ancient Aztec custom of celebrating ancestors with All Souls Day, a Roman Catholic day of prayer and remembrance of the departed, brought to Mexico by Spanish invaders in the early 1500s.

HYOH - "Hike Your Own Hike"
Supposedly there is a saying on the Appalachian Trail: "Hike your own hike," which encourages each person to hike the way that they want to, giving whatever they have for their own hike to complete their goal. I did not see this a lot on the AT, but I am slowly learning to take the sentiment to heart. I was given a backwards compliment one day when a thru-hiker (someone who is hiking the entire trail from Georgia to Maine) asked how far I had covered that day. I told him I started late and just hiked eight miles. He said, "That's why you look so put together," basically stating that I didn't do much. This was my first example that I was not on the same wavelength as other more "seasoned" hikers who had been there for more than three months.

Sightseeing When Everyone's Asleep!. Top Story - October 2021.
It's a beautiful sunset at the Avenue of Baobabs in Madagascar. Many tourists enjoy watching the last rays of sun and just a few minutes later, they all get in the cars and get back to their hotels, except me!

Death Valley, California Road Trip
Have you ever been called by nature? Death Valley National Park called my name; I’m deeply grateful I listened. I visited the hottest place on Earth during the hottest year ever recorded! On July 9, 2021 Death Valley reached 130 degrees, record-breaking heat. I was there June 21-22, 2021, the temperature reached 107, with a refreshing wind during the day.

Welcome to Ponce
The Cuidad de Leones (City of Lions) and La Perla del Sur (Pearl of the South) are some of the names used to describe the city of Ponce located on the small island of Puerto Rico. Ponce sits between a Central Mountain Range and the Caribbean Sea and received its name from the island’s first governor, Juan Ponce de León. It’s also the second-largest city on the island after San Juan.

Waste Management Redefined
The days were most cloudy at that time of year and when a nice day occurred, it tended to brighten my mood. That’s what happened one day back in February when the weather was beautiful. That day the sun was shining, the temperatures were well above freezing, the snow was melting (although not quickly enough for me) and I decided it was too nice outside to waste the day hibernating inside my house. I decided to take a long drive and went to one of my favorite places: Captree State Park.
