Small Town, Big Heart
For those living in the small North Western town of Minden Louisiana, the first weekend in February is basically a town holiday. But not for the reason you might think. This town to-do isn’t for football or Mardi Gras, though there will be cookouts and people dancing in the streets. No, the reason everyone from Webster Parish and surrounding areas gather together is for THE MINDEN ST. JUDE AUCTION (I think legally it has to be in all caps, so everyone knows just how big of a deal this is).

History of Chinese New Year
This weekend marks the beginning of Chinese New Year. This is the oldest, longest, and most important social and economic holiday in China. Chinese New Year, which begins the first day of the Chinese lunisolar calendar. It starts this year on February 12, though the celebrations continue for around two weeks. Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival and ends with the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the first month of the Chinese calendar.

Built on the bones of hippies and cowboys, and tempered with congressional handshakes and technology, Austin is a nexus. A highway of art and money where the young want to be and older folks want to leave behind. The beauty of Austin is easy to see from any bridge spanning the Colorado or from any hilltop looking down on loop 360, but the soul of a city is harder to find. To find that you’ll need to look behind the bar counter, inside a family owned food truck, or on the stage of a hole-in-the-wall...or perhaps I should say The Hole in the Wall.

The temple holds many other names as Periya Kovil, RajaRajeswara Temple, and Rajarajesvaram. They Paved Paradise
Last night I snuck out, hours after everyone went to sleep, I did this all summer. It was my job to wake up my friends, and we would cruise the streets of good old WI, until the sun began to break the horizon. The back door to the Captree Day Camp indoor pool was open that night (ok, maybe it wasn’t), but we decided to have some fun. The cops came, one guy got caught, and my Mom was sitting on my bed—when I snuck back in through the window.

Journey to Kathmandu
The train pulled into Gorakpur station and after the stampede to exit clears I manage to make my way through the dense fragrant crowd camped on the platform. The noise and heat are intense. This is the hot dry pre-monsoonal season in India when temperatures can reach 50degC or more.
