Does A “Guilty Pleasure” Really Make You Feel Guilty?
Who doesn’t have them? A TV show or series we love, even though they are awful. The boring books we simply can’t put down. Sleeping in until 11am. Having that extra slice of cake while watching Netflix. The dreadful songs we hate to love. The professed “guilty pleasures” are only an illusion. I mean, are we really feeling guilty about it? Certainly, I’m not, and deep down neither are you. But a huge part of the world will say otherwise; the term itself is more common than we think. I was having mixed opinions about it so I decided to go out of my way and look more into it - here’s what I figured.

A Short Break From Myself: What Last NYE Taught Me
There are times in our lives when we feel irrevocably tired of ourselves, and I think I have an explanation for this. Between all the toings and froings in life and the roles we play for our different cliques, there is too little time left to ponder which part of you is real. Admit it, none of us know who we are entirely. So, last year I made a decision that gave me a break from spiralling down through my tumultuous self. It was New Year’s Eve 2022 and I had just moved into Sydney. My work schedule was beyond me and I couldn’t help myself but take a break from the toxic environment that was nothing but harmful to my mental health. I decided to get away from the usual faces, which included my family, my friends and my colleagues. I booked a ticket aboard one of the Sydney NYE cruises, which are a famous vantage point to see the fireworks from a different perspective. It was remarkable indeed. With amazing food, a lot of booze, spectacular views, and not to mention, new faces, I knew I was at the right place at the moment. I met some wonderful people on board, all strangers. And here’s what I understood: that I didn’t have to assume a particular role or pressurise myself to be something I’m not when I’m around strangers. Rather I could be anyone I want to be or explore parts of myself with no strings attached to the reputed parts of my character. I guess I should add Sydney New Year’s Eve cruises to my favourites. They make me think.

What You Should and Shouldn’t Do While Visiting Sydney
Travel has been my life mentor for well over the past seven or eight years. Through exploring unknown lands, meeting new people, experiencing new things and facing an avalanche of challenges. I’m fortunate to see the world through a new set of eyes every now and then. Sydney is one of my favourite destinations on the planet, an incredibly friendly and laid-back city, with residents who admire their harbour and are happy to share it with people from all parts of the world. But this wasn’t the case every time I visited. There are a couple of things you should still avoid to ensure you have a safe staycation, be on the good side of the locals and most importantly, don’t get ripped off.

How I Plan To End The Year On a High Note
For billions, 2022 was the first normal year after a horrendous couple of years and coming into it I had high hopes and renewed dreams. As nonchalant as I am, I was kind of nervous stepping into the New Year but I guess that’s also part of who I am. I was supposed to make a buck load of money and have heaps of fun, but I was humbled by life itself, when a sickness had struck me. Now the year feels like it’s been split into messy chapters and rightfully so. I started out as a copywriter, enjoyed a brief vacation in Gold Coast, my hair got whiter by the month, I became ill for over two weeks and now I’m getting back on my feet in August, which made me wonder ‘What’s next?’.

The Last Time I Did Something For The First Time
Years ago when I was travelling in Amman, through the great Petra, as part of my trip to see the Dead Sea, I stumbled across a sign that caught my attention. It asked “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”. I jotted it down immediately. Several weeks ago, I saw it again, but this time at a chic art cafe near my apartment in Kochi. At that moment something evoked inside me, I felt a sense of resonation. I think it was because of where I am today, from the time between my encounter with the first sign and the second, I did a lot of firsts that changed my life for the better. From clicking my most-liked selfie on the Sydney Harbour dinner cruises to finally hitting the gym after years of excuses, I did many firsts in my life after so long.

Here is Sydney Served Sunny Side Up
Travelling to me is simply exciting. Meeting people from different walks of life, getting to try new cuisines, learning about different cultures etc. there’s nothing like it. Out of all the places I have travelled to, I must tell you, Sydney is one place that has caught my attention. Don’t take my word for it, experience to believe. No wonder, its rich multicultural heritage and pure culinary passion makes it the Flavour Capital of Australia.
