New York Day 6
It was our last morning in the hotel, so we decided to have a lie in until about 9 AM. Checkout was not due until noon. Unfortunately, housekeeping had other ideas at 7:30 AM and used their keys to come into our room. My friend sprung out of bed and got to the door before she could get in. Housekeeping wanted to know what time we were leaving. It’s very lucky my friend got there first, or I would have told the woman where to go. I do not like being woken up before I have to. As a result, housekeeping lost their tip this morning.

A Trip to a Neighbouring Nation's Capital
Washington D.C. looks stunning during the fall. I mean, how could a city that’s rich with so much history not seem like the most beautiful place to be during any season. The leaves that are shades of burnt red and amber are an immaculate backdrop for the stone buildings that decorate the city.

Falling in Love with A Place
It all started when I met a boy. Go figure, right? But we started dating and he brought me back to his hometown. It was there that I fell in love; not with him. I fell in love with that place. I loved his hometown. It was beautiful. I had made fun of him so much for growing up in Iowa and I finally understood why he had always just shrugged off my jokes like nothing. Iowa was perfect.

New York: Day 3
This morning I had a scrambled eggs breakfast in the hotel restaurant. It was nice, but the chefs put an awful lot on my plate. I couldn’t even eat half of it and I usually eat loads. I’ve noticed that eggs seem to be the main things on breakfast menus over here. My friend had the pancakes. She had a cup of tea and the waitress assured us it was English tea. It most definitely wasn’t. I just had a soda instead. After breakfast we went to a few convenience shops. I needed to pick up some toiletries for the hotel. We were determined to find some proper tea bags. We ultimately failed. So, I must pack proper tea bags on my next holiday abroad—roll on Las Vegas!

New York City in a Few Days
I went to New York in July 2016. It had always been a dream of mine to go and see the Big Apple. I was fortunate enough to go as a birthday present from my grandma. We flew out to New York and then caught the Queen Mary 2 to Southampton; with a quick stop at Halifax in Nova Scotia. My overall vivat to New York wasn't long and I knew I wouldn't see everything that I wanted to see so I had to narrow it down and go to the main places.

Mysterious Places
If you are looking for an "other worldly" experience on Long Island, there is no better place than its Coastal Plain Pondshores. When you step into this world, the first thing you notice is the eerie silence. Then you feel as though you aren't in suburbia at all but in some remote corner of this planet reserved for your tranquillity. A low hanging mist pervades the scene and you are imbued with the scent of raw nature. Snapping turtles sun themselves on a log reaching above the shallow pond. At your feet are some of the rarest plants in the world. You have entered a place that is a remnant of glacial modification, a piece of the tundra left thousands of years ago.

Winston-Salem, North Carolina
If you ever find yourself traveling through North Carolina there is a gem north of Charlotte and west of Greensboro known as Winston-Salem. Winston-Salem offers art, innovation, diversity, and the perfect balance of country/city living. Before I moved to Winston-Salem to follow a job opportunity I have never heard of it, after living here for a couple months I am shocked that this quaint but busy little city is not well-known. Winston-Salem offers history, nature trails, diverse food, lush scenery, and a dynamic downtown.

New York: Day 2
Today I woke up feeling incredibly refreshed and ready for anything. We went out and found a diner—Juniors—for breakfast. I had an omelette with ham and hash potatoes and a cup of tea. It is very true that they give out big portions of food, but I got my money’s worth, as it cost $16. The food was lovely; the tea was not. Reminder to self: take a box of British tea bags next time I go to America.

New York
When I travel I tend not to sleep much the night before. I get plagued by thoughts over every possible thing that could go wrong; losing passport, missing the flight, losing my luggage etc. This time my nerves were of flying were fighting against the excitement over I am finally going to New York!

Zion National Park
Imagine climbing the steep switchbacks, watching the start point become more and more alien until you cannot even distinguish it anymore. That is hour one. Hour two brings you through a beautiful flat canyon carved through the mountain itself. The kind of canyon where it feels like the walls are ready to collapse on you. The canyon gives way to yet more steep climbing with grandiose views and startling drop offs. This is not a place for your kids. You see Angels Landing in the distance, with its harrowing chains, and notice it's small beneath you. You have come far, but you're only half-way. The next time you check your watch, it's the start of the third hour. "Is this mile two or three? God, I hope we're close."

10 Reasons to Visit Alaska
While the northern reaches of the 49th state are undeniably harsh, and nearly inhabitable, during the winter months, the broad, striking beauty of this region offer many reasons to visit Alaska. From beautiful, awe-inspiring landscapes to incredible and rare wildlife, and sights you can't find anywhere else to unique cultural festivals, it is truly one of the world's most incredible natural wonders. Furthermore, misconceptions about the comfort and habitability of Alaska—especially during warmer seasons, and in the south—mean that it is often overlooked as a vacation spot, despite its wide-ranging offerings. Whether you're a die-hard outdoorsman looking for a challenge, or a more comfort-oriented vacationer in search of inspiration, Alaska has many compelling features that you just can't find anywhere else.
