“Welcome to Miami, Bienvenido a Miami!”
Hey baddies! What’s good? I know fall semester has started for some and will be starting soon for others. We’re are now getting to the books and our bags. Simple! Some of you who may know me personally or keep up to date with me on social media are already aware, but for those who aren’t; I just transferred from Virginia Commonwealth University into Florida International University. After moving my entire life to Richmond last fall, I’m now moving my entire life down to Miami. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved Richmond; VCU is a great school with much diversity and several different opportunities for its students in the community. Unfortunately, I fell on the wrong side of the FASFA formula. As most students know, FASFA is either your bestie or your enemy. I’m in the enemy zone, where your parents make “too much money” on paper, but in reality, no one really can afford to graduate with a half million dollars of loan debt! So, I had to suck up my northern girl dreams and find a school of my liking, with in-state tuition.

Places to Look Out for in Chicago
As someone from Chicago, I always recommend people to visit my hometown. I always enjoyed living in a busy city with shopping malls or restaurants nearby. Chicago has been compared to cities like New York, and doesn't get me wrong it's a great tourist spot, but nothing (in my opinion) compares to the beautiful, open-wide, pure and friendly streets. It's true what they say about the people in Chicago, we are friendly.

The Big Island, Hawai'i
The island of Hawai’i is called the Big Island for a reason (um, it’s big). Don’t underestimate the time it takes to drive from one end to another (there is no shortcut, you are on Hawai’ian time—the highways only go around and are often backed up), nor the number of things you may want to stop to see on the way (hikes, beaches, carvings, historical sites, shops). Because my family is spoiled and is afforded chances to visit on a regular basis, I have compiled a list of some of our favorite activities.

Two Days in San Francisco
As you can have probably guessed by now, I like to eat, and drink and explore new places. Our own Bay Area never ceases to amaze me with the number of unique opportunities it proffers; there are a multitude of magazines devoted solely to things to do, see, and eat in this area. Since I have been asked so often by visitors for a list of my own personal favorites of “characteristic” SF places to go and stay in this wonderful area of ours, I thought I would just put them here. (Yes, I LIKE to plan).

The Winchester Mystery House
America is full of strange, unusual, and out-of-the-way places. From record-breaking balls of twine, to castles built along unnamed lakes in undeveloped forests, there are all kinds of weird things lurking in the corners of the country. Sometimes, though, the stories behind these unusual places is even more bizarre than the place itself.

Reflections: Salt Lake City Situation
In the early nineties I decided to take an Audit Assignment for a large Insurance Company in Salt Lake City mainly because I’d never been there and I wanted to stay on the Left Coast. One of the perks of working for a National Healthcare Consulting Company was you could pretty much pick and choose where you wanted to go.

Reflections: Bucket of Blood OKC
The summer of 1996 I accepted a travel assignment in Oklahoma City; it was a year after the Oklahoma Bombing. My sweet Mama grew up in Oklahoma and I wanted to see where she had grown up because we’d never got an opportunity to visit. I promised her I would do a road trip to McAlester and Wewoka her hometown.

Secret Hiking Gem in Central Cascades
If you are searching for the ideal hiking adventure, look no further. I have the perfect spot for you! Tucked away in the Central Cascades of Washington, about 15 miles west of Leavenworth, WA you will find the parking lot for High Alpine Lakes Camp. Yes, you will need to make reservations in advance, both for the cabins and the transportation (usually two times per day to catch a ride up to the cabins). No, it isn’t cheap or free, but the benefits for both the trip up and the stay in the cabins is worth it.

The Real Ellis Island
A trip to New York city is incomplete without experiencing the rich amount of American history that is on offer. The museums, the monuments, parks, statues, and historical sites is overwhelming. But top of most tourists' lists is a trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The story of the United States is so deeply integrated with these two national parks that actually visiting them can really make all the difference in your view of the United States.

Vacay like a Floridian
Your PTO days are numbered and valuable. You should spend them on a vacation destination that can offer you everything a getaway should, rather than choosing one activity. When you are taking time off of work, you want to be able to unwind, but you also want to have exciting experiences that you can document and share with friends. Florida is the perfect place for rest and relaxation, thrilling water sport experiences, and many different beautiful views. It is a one-stop shop for vacation activities.
