Häme Castle, also known as Hämeenlinna, is a medieval fortification built in the 13th century on the shores of Lake Vanajavesi. The castle is known for its red-brick architecture. In the castle museum the exhibitions include various artifacts from different periods of the castle’s existence. The castle site is a popular tourist destination and is host to several annual events and a frequently celebrated Renaissance fair.

Kajaani Castle is located in the northern region of Kainuu and was built in the 17th century to protect the area from Russian invasions. Even though the castle is now in ruins tourists can walk through the archaeological site and learn more about its historical importance in the region.

Kastelholm Castle, situated in the Åland Islands, was built in the 14th century. The castle served as a royal residence and over the years has been restored to preserve its original architecture. It was built by the Swedes in the 14th century and has a lovely view overlooking a fjord. In the present day, the castle is open to the public. Ancient relics, discovered at the site, are on display in the hall area. Each year in July, the castle hosts a medieval festival for travelers, offering an authentic experience complete with jousting, culinary delights, and dancing.

Lappeenranta Fortress is also known as the Old City. This 18th century defense fortification has a theater, shops, museums, several restaurants, and the oldest Russian Orthodox church in Finland. The fortress represents a rich blend of culture and history from Finland, Sweden, and Russia. it is located in the town of Lappeenranta on the banks of Lake Saimaa. It was built to defend the border against attacks from Northwestern Russia.

Olavinlinna Castle is located in the heart of Lake Saimaa. It was built in 1475 for defensive purposes. It is famous for being the northernmost medieval stone castle in the world. The strategic location of this castle let it control trade routes and defend the region from attacks from Russian invadors. The castle is know for being the venue for the internationally acclaimed Savonlinna Opera Festival, a major cultural event. It is rhomboid-shaped with a curtained courtyard and three prominent towers. Visitors enjoy the Castle Museum featuring excavated items from the site as well as relics from the area. Several exhibits are displayed at the site for visitors to admire and photograph. There is also an Orthodox Museum open to the public housing remnants of Finnish and Russian origin.

Oulu Castle, located in the city of the same name, was built in the 16th century to protect northern Finland. The castle is situated at the mouth of the Oulu River in the outlying town of Oulu, Finland. The remains of the castle remain a site of historical and tourist interest. The park surrounding the old castle is a popular place for walks and cultural events in the city.

Raseborg Castle is a fortress located in Western Uusimaa. The castle ruins date bake to the 14th century. The ruins offer amazing views of the surrouning landscape. It is popular with hikers and visitors who want to explore the natural surroundings and enjoy cultural events organized at the site.

Suomenlinna Fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an extensive maritime fortification built in the 18th century on an archipelago near Helsinki. The fortress was originally constructed by the Swedes to defend against the Russians. The fortress features unique architecture combining Swedish, Russian, and Finnish elements. It is one of Finland’s most visited tourist destinations and an important symbol of the country’s cultural heritage. The fortress is located on an area that consists of eight islands. The Suomenlinna Museum is open to the public year around with exhibits displaying the progression of the fortress throughout its existence.

Turku Castle is Finland’s largest medieval fortress. It was built in the 13th century and is lcoated in the port city of Turku. Inside is a museum that informs of the Medieval history of Finland, The castle sits on the shore of Lake Aura. Featuring Renaissance and Medieval architecture, the castle site is a box-like fort with two thickset gateway towers and a courtyard. The castle construction commenced in 1280 with various additions completed since. Today, the castle is fully restored, and home to the Turku Historical Museum which is open to the public. Guided tours are available.
