Bosnia and Herzegovina, sometimes known as Bosnia-Herzegovina and informally as Bosnia, is a country in Southeast Europe. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country with a unique history, culture, and lovely landscapes. It has a medieval heritage and well-preserved castles.

Blagaj Fort is located outside of the town of Blagaj. This castle was once home to King Herceg-Stjepan. The way up to the castle includes rocky ruins, once part of the surrounding fortress town. It is one of the largest in the region, with sheer stone walls and medieval turrets. From the castle one gets lovely views of the town and the river in the valley. Blagaj is a protected national monument.

Biljela Tabija or the White Fortress, overlooks the old quarter of Sarajevo. It dates back to the mid-1500s. The castle perches on the edge of a cliff and offers awesome views of the city. It is a protected national monument and is being restored. The Vratnik Citadel, which the fortress overlooks, is a beautiful medieval area of Sarajevo.

At one time, the Bosnian crown jewels could be found here. The fortress has a mausoleum where the skeletons of nine kings were discovered. It was the birthplace of the first king of the country. Srebenik Fortress sits high up on a rock, which is isolated from the surrounding hills. Visitors can get to the fortress by crossing a bridge.
