Stephen King in Maine
5 stars for SK fans!
Stephen King Tours in Bangor, Maine, is the most nerdy thing I have done to please my parents, but it was totally worth it!
My dad has always been a huge Stephen King fan, so when I was searching for a fun activity for his birthday and found the website for this tour, I knew it would be worth the five-hour drive. So we woke up early on his birthday (which isn't a hardship for him, so don't say I was being mean) and started the drive. I didn't tell him where we were going until we stopped for lunch about an hour outside Bangor. I presented him with his gift bag containing an Overlook Hotel keychain and a Stephen King tee, which I immediately made him put on to match my mom and me.
Of course, he also doesn't like his picture taken, so you'll have to imagine his Pet Sematary shirt next to our It and The Shining shirts.

Here's the thing: my mom is not a big fan of scary things, so Stephen King doesn't rank high on her favorites list. My dad and I were watching The Shining together when I was five (which is way too young!). So she was just enjoying the scenery, while my dad and I completely geeked out over all the places that inspired the movies/books we love so much.

So what I'm basically saying is that if you have a strange obsession with Stephen King, this is definitely a trip worth taking!
