Sailing Around the World by Crewing: Global Hitchhiking
Three Years Sailing on Sailboats, Circumnavigating the Globe

I've been sailing around the world for the past three years, by crewing on other people's sailboats, or what I call, Global HitchHiking. I have been on eight different boats and traveled over 35,000 nautical miles. I have spent 100s of days and nights at sea and been to over 40 countries. I have been to countries I've dreamed about going to my entire life. I've also been to many countries I hadn't ever heard of my entire life. I have caught wild wahoo, tuna, barracuda, shark, and many other kinds of fish over the past 3 years. I even caught a booby-bird in Christmas Islands by accident, which I was able to get disentangled from my hook and released. It has been the adventure of a lifetime and it's getting ready to come to a close.
I am currently in Cartagena, Colombia, the last country in my journey before I sail to Panama, where my circumnavigation will be complete. With mixed feelings, I prepare to make this final passage. When I arrive in Panama, I will visit a bit, but then it's back to the US where I will start saving for my own boat, so I can do it all again on my own terms and my own timeframe.
There has been many times on this journey when I wanted to stay longer and explore places like Vanuatu, with its many islands, but was only able to spend three days there because of the schedule requirements of my captain. There were also places I wasn't able to visit because of similar situations. Places like Samoa, the Philippines, India, The Maldives, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and the list goes on and on.
But here are some photos I'd like to share with you from my journey. There are hundreds of photos like this, but these are my favorites. I hope you enjoy. Drop me a line and tell me what you think about my journey. Feel free to ask questions. I have written several articles about Global Hitchhiking and can share these with you if you're interested in a similar journey. And if you think you're too old, too young, too scared, too whatever, to do what I have done, I'll help you see that if you really want to, it's waiting for you.
