Nigeria

…a later to freedom

By Joseph JunePublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Since Her birth, neither its civilian nor military governments remarkable aptitude for managing the affairs of the citizens and it has been this rudderless leadership has been crux of Nigeria's hardship.

Nigeria leadership and political ideology has been excessively concerned with material possessions, money-oriented, religious fanaticism.

The failure of Nigeria has nothing to do with its people or background, it is the leaders who has repeatedly without remorse or penitence dragged the nation backwards, all for selfish wealthiness.

The leaders, they failed us times without number. No day passes by without a wail from those living outside the political cycle, but the voices are not heard no matter how loud or resonance it gets.

For the leaders and their children or wards, it is proud and boastful being a Nigerian; you know why? Because none of them is been raised here or schooled here. They have spent almost all their lives in the country abroad where their parents have already looted the budgets of the unborn to, and even so, coming home to "their own Nigeria" during holidays, it's a nice place to live all because the house is built on the other side of the glorious Nigeria. I believe there's a dream out there to believe because there's a life there to live out there, while down here where the wailing masses built their hut, living is only to survive the next minute because you don't know where the next bomb will be dropped.

Take a look at our unattainable balance in electricity, moving from government-owned to private-owned company and vice versa. If truly you want electricity, you buy your own generator; if you want water, you sink your own bore-hole. One day soon, you will have to build your own hospital just to get a medical assistant here in Nigeria.

If we'll observed, one will conclude that Nigeria has spent a better percent of the wealth of its nation in attempt to curbing corruption, and till date it is still the main chorus of all the political aspirants and their political hallelujah boys during election campaign. It won't be new to me if the clueless Nigerians getting dividends from the political cycle would retort: It's just a rumor! They should provide proof of the looting! No one, I repeat not even single person can present a ‘satisfactory’ proof for the simple fact that nobody issues a receipt for a bribe or for money stolen from the public treasury.

How arguably will it be possible when the CCB(Code of Conduct Bureau) which in trustworthy meaning is supposed to be the pioneer of anti-corruption agency set up by the same leaders of Nigeria? How will you goto a war without being prepared? The have all their dogs present in all official offices aimed at fighting corruption and incompetence in the government.

This country is systematically held back by corruption, ethnocentrism, indiscipline, social injustice and inequality, which is in shot to say that insightful critique with which many people from other ethnic groups relate and though 10s of thousand years have passed, the critique remains relevant to this day. The poverty level keeps increasing amidst the country's position amongst the oil producing countries. It is totally and absolutely unacceptable, but this is so because once you are employed, paid and well lived with your office not threatened, you will have the power to question their ordeals, but being hungry, unemployed, unpaid and poor; you will accept whatever they brings to the table because you are just surviving and not living. They feed you during the election period and stay silent during their years in office. All these are the handiwork of disorderly grown and mentally deficient leadership, mediocre leadership that has come to characterise Nigerian politics.

Every general and president has been quick to proclaim Nigeria’s unity is non-negotiable, but questions abound over the insidious ways the government has strengthened tribal affiliations over nationalism through questionable political appointments, resource allocations and job placements in the name of affirmative actions.
