A Change In Perspectives
Nearly every summer when I was a kid, we'd load the family station wagon up with food supplies and suitcases and make the long drive to a cabin in Lords Valley in the Poconos. I remembered it being this huge rustic place, sitting on five acres of land, all mostly wooded. You came in through the enclosed entryway and into the sitting room with its knotty pine paneling. It had a massive kitchen and two bedrooms, one with three huge beds and the other with two sets of bunk beds. Oh, and the couch was a sleeper sofa, too. That was where my brother and I usually slept, once we got used to the bar that ran right under the mattress beneath our backs.

Pattaya in 2022
The last 2 years have been trying for most of us. For me they actually were not so bad until July of 2021 when my mother passed away. Shortly after my son was born in Bangkok and his mother unfortunately decided she couldn't handle having more than one child (she had one from a previous relationship). Still mourning the loss of my mother and trying to get back into the groove of things my son and I left Bangkok and I attempted to find my groove again. Having travelled the world through the pandemic I will admit I was not only shell shocked and concerned about what may come next but also exhausted. Pattaya seemed like the least likely place to get some rest but also seemed like a great spot to jump back into where the action was. I was wrong on both accounts.

"Port of Reflections" by Leandro Erlich
"Port of Reflections" by Leandro Erlich The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul, South Korea, has a beautiful display of one of Leandro Erlich's many spontaneous pieces of art. The name of the piece is “Port of Reflections”. It was displayed in South Korea in September 2015. However, Erlich created the art display in 2014. I was able to encounter this exhibit using the Google Arts and Culture online tour. The site led me to many wonderful art pieces, and I was fortunate to have stumbled upon Leandro Erlich’s piece while touring the basement. The “Port of Reflections” is an optical illusion art exhibit consisting of multiple floating boats, a port side room, and a black carpeted room underneath.
