Imagine yourself waiting in line with people from all around the world. You only catch words here or there that you actually understand. It feels as if you are in some foreign land on an exotic vacation. However, you are right in your own backyard with people who have come from all over to the see the beauties of your home province.

You get on the bus, and wait. You seem to keep on climbing and climbing as you see the cliff beside the road get higher and higher. Finally you stop beside a large, and I mean very large, pile of rocks. As you get off the bus you see people going two ways, some up the trail to the top of the rocks and other along a trail through some trees. You decide to take the trail to the top of the rocks.

After a short but calf-burning walk, you find yourself awe struck and you just stop. This is the view of Moraine Lake in Banff National Park.

If you have ever been to Canada, or have ever seen famous photos of Canada, I'm sure you have seen a photo of this lake. Lake Moraine is probably the most iconic lake in this beautiful country. Located in Banff National Park, Lake Moraine is one of the many picturesque Rocky Mountain lakes in the area. The turquoise waters create a beautiful panorama.

Sometimes we take for granted the beauty of nature that we have right in our own backyard. I try to never take for granted the abundance of beautiful scenes that we have in Alberta, Canada.

There is a trail that follows the lake which is also an awesome short hike to take with anyone of any ability. If you are wanting to drive up to Moraine Lake, I would recommend heading up there early before they close the road and only allow buses through. It gets so busy that you have to take a shuttle bus to the lake from Lake Louise.

Even though it was busy, it was well worth the wait for the bus and the extra cost of the shuttle.

This is a mixed media piece of art. I mixed wood burning (pyrography) and acrylic painting. As you can see in the video. I first burn in all the lines into the pine wood with a hot iron tool, then I paint it with acrylic paint, burn the edges with a blowtorch, and finish it with a gloss covering, protecting it from damage. The gloss covering really makes the colors pop and brings the piece together nicely. The piece measures roughly 7.25x11 inches.

The photo that I used for reference for this piece I took this past summer when my wife and I visited Banff for a weekend. Moraine Lake, in my opinion, is the prettiest of them all. Here is the photo that I used as reference:

This is a new style of art for me, but I have quickly fallen in love with it. I love how vibrant the colors are, how interesting the shapes are, and how something so simple can be so eye catching.

These wood-burned pieces take about double to triple the time a painting on a canvas this size would take me but it is well worth the effort. These are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of art.

If there is a scene you would like to suggest I do, just let me know. I would love to have some input from you!
