The Kodachadri Trek Route: A Step-by-Step Guide
The Kodachadri Trek offers two main routes—one through Hidlumane Falls (adventurous and scenic) and another via Kattinahole (easier but longer).
Route 1: The Hidlumane Falls Route (Most Popular & Challenging)
Trek Distance – 12-14 km one way
Trek Duration – 6-7 hours (one way)
Starting Point – Nittur
Step 1: Nittur to Hidlumane Falls
The trek starts from Nittur, a small village near Kodachadri. The initial stretch takes you through areca nut plantations and dense forests.
After about 3 km, you’ll reach Hidlumane Falls, a breathtaking seven-tier waterfall where trekkers often take a refreshing break. The trail around the waterfall is steep and slippery, making it one of the most thrilling parts of the trek.
Step 2: Hidlumane Falls to the Forest Trail
Once you cross the waterfalls, the real challenge begins. The dense forests make the trail both exciting and demanding, with steep ascents and uneven terrain. The beauty of the surrounding greenery and chirping birds keeps trekkers motivated.
Step 3: Reaching the Kodachadri Summit
After trekking for about 5-6 km from the falls, you’ll reach the Kodachadri Peak. The view from the top is surreal, with rolling hills covered in mist, the vast Arabian Sea in the distance, and an unforgettable sunset.
At the peak, you’ll also find the Sarvajna Peetha, a small stone temple where Adi Shankaracharya is said to have meditated. It’s a great place to reflect, relax, and soak in the stunning views.
Route 2: The Kattinahole Jeep Route (Easier but Longer)
Trek Distance – 15 km one way
Trek Duration – 5-6 hours (one way)
Starting Point – Kattinahole Village
This route is preferred by those who want an easier trek with more gradual ascents. It is also the same route that jeeps take to reach the peak, making it a good option for those who want to mix trekking with off-roading.
