How to Spend One Week in Phuket
Guidelines on What to Do During a Week-Long Holiday in Phuket

Occupying pride of place on the western shores of Southern Thailand, Phuket remains the island of choice for many beach vacationers. Revered for its stunning coastlines and cultural heritage, spending a week in Phuket is a dream come true for most globetrotters. From spending time in the island's finest beaches to discovering the local heritage, here are some tips on how to make the most of a week-long trip to the paradise isle.
1. Day One
Your first day in Phuket should be spent exploring the byways of Phuket Town as it is akin to a trip back in time. Renowned for its captivating Sino-Portuguese buildings and architectural heritage, the iconic historical landmarks, as well as the many bustling markets that make up Phuket Town, will be well worth your time as the area is also home to some famous temples including the Jui Tui Shrine. Don't forget to leave Old Phuket Town for the post-lunch hours as this is where one finds Khao Rang, and some of the best beaches in the area, including the very secluded Ao Yon Beach. Drop by the Phuket Aquarium on your way back to your hotel as massive groupers and other colourful marine species are found here.
2. Day Two
The second day in Phuket should start with a trip to the Chalong Pier where one can hop on a boat to some of the islands in close proximity to Phuket. These pristine islands are ideal for day tours as they are located just off the south coast of Phuket. The remainder of the day can be spent paying homage to the many Buddhist temples occupying the island including the Kitti Sangkharam Temple and Big Buddha, which looks out over the island from its vaulted height. One of the biggest temples in Phuket is, of course, Wat Chalong with its three-storey high Chedi.
3. Day Three
Set aside the third day of the trip to explore the beauty of Kata, a tranquil neighbourhood with its own peaceful beach. Karon is a mere 15 minutes away from Kata and is one of the longest beaches in all of Phuket. Those who wish to enjoy water sports activities the likes of parasailing or surfing or simply spend time playing beach volleyball will find this area is ideal for such recreational pursuits.
4. Day Four
Patong is one of Phuket's most popular neighbourhoods and it is perhaps the entertainment powerhouse of the island. After splashing around Patong Beach one can head down to Freedom Beach, a lesser-known seaside hideaway that's truly free from all the touristy trappings lining most beaches on the island. Don't forget to venture down famed Bangla Road as the sun goes down as this nightlife hub is not only home to venues where one can catch Thai boxing matches or indulge in spa therapies but also cabaret shows or go-kart rides.
5. Day Five
Devote the fifth day of your Phuket vacation to discovering the excellent restaurants and natural wonders of Cherngtalay. Home to Pansea Beach and Layan Beach and Surin Beach, the area is a foodie's dream come true. Those who hang out in Cherngtalay till evening comes can also check out its nightclubs and dance halls.
6. Day Six
While those based at Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites & Villas and other similar family suites in Phuket won't have to go far to experience Mai Khao. All other tourists must head down to this region to tour the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation. Other attractions worthy of exploration include Nai Yang Beach and the Chat Chai Mangrove Forest.
7. Day Seven
Before checking out of the hotel at the appointed hour, spend your last day in Phuket at the Paklok Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Sanctuary where countless wild animals are found. The cutting-edge conservation hub where the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project is also part of the agenda offers a glimpse at local wildlife through the eyes of animal rescuers.
