How to reach Pasikuda?

These picturesque beaches which are located along the coastlines of Batticaloa are two of the most frequent tourist destinations of travellers of modern times. If you are wondering how to get to these locations, read on to find the most convenient transport option.  

Via the road 

The most convenient and budget-friendly means of travelling to Pasikuda Bay and Kalkudah is to catch the night bus from Colombo. This journey lasts for nearly 8 hours so it is good to plan your trip in advance and carry all your essentials along with you and keep them handy during the journey. This is a more comfortable travelling option than the train and is also more convenient as you will be reaching your destination sooner. Another plus feature about taking a taxi is that you will be able to travel according to your pace. If you have booked one of the Pasikuda beach resorts in advance, your taxi will drop you right at the doorstep of your accommodation. If you are on a tight budget, it is better to find a lodging close to Pasikuda Bay and Kalkudah. A property like Amethyst Resort is only around an 18-minute stroll away.

Another route you can take there is from Batticaloa or Arugambay. Ample buses are available to these sites from Batticaloa. You can reach the destinations in around half an hour from Batticaloa. It is more difficult to locate a bus from Arugambay since the journey is around three hours long.  If you are looking for a more comfortable travelling experience and do not mind spending a few bucks on comforts, try booking a cab there. This ensures a comfortable travelling experience. You will be able to travel at your own pace and stop by places you need on the way. 

Once in Pasikuda, try navigating to Kalkudah by using healthy and convenient means like hiring a bicycle. The tranquil settings of the area make it a safe place to take to the road on a two-wheeler. It is also an ideal way to absorb local experiences and enjoy nature. There is only a short distance between Pasikuda and Kalkudah but the amenities offered will make you want to visit both and enjoy their offerings. 

Via train 

Taking the Ella train to Pasikuda is an option that some embark on. This is a 15-hour journey and can be quite tiring. Plus you need to take two trains to get there. There are only two from Ella to Polgahawela per day. Disembark at Polgahawela railway station and take a train to Valaichchenai. Three trains are running along this line per day. Get off at Valaichchenai railway station and catch a taxi or three-wheeler to travel the 7km distance to Pasikuda. 

Via air

The main international airport and Colombo are about 300 kilometres away from Pasikuda. Although you can cut down on travel time by taking a one-hour internal flight from Colombo directly to Batticaloa Airport, which is 45 minutes away by car, most visitors arrive here as part of a round-trip tour of the island, especially from the Cultural Triangle. 

You can also land at Pasikuda Aerodrome by renting a helicopter or air taxi from Bandaranaike International Airport.
