Easter holidays are just around the corner. And if you're one of those who spend this time getting out of the city, you should know that as part of its "Clean Beaches 2025" program, Cofepris announced that it is monitoring water quality at 289 recreational beaches located in 76 tourist destinations across Mexico's 17 coastal states.
The good news is that 283 of the beaches tested (98% of the sample) met the standards required for recreational use. Only six destinations failed the test. And although they are a minority, you should know that their results showed the presence of more than 200 fecal enterococci per 100 milliliters of water.
This situation clearly represents a significant health risk, so try to avoid using it. Here's the list:
- Rosarito Beach – Rosarito/Baja California
- Rosarito Beach I – Rosarito/Baja California
- Tijuana Beach – Tijuana/Baja California
- Tijuana Beach I – Tijuana/Baja California
- Icacos Beach – Acapulco/Guerrero
- Banderas Bay Sayulita Beach – Nayarit
