The world is yours for the taking. Where will you backpack to next?
The Joys of Hiking
In Washington, it tends to rain a lot. So one weekend in the fall, the forecast said it was going to be sunny, and I had to take advantage of that. I invited some friends and we went to Granite Mountain. Granite Mountain is a relatively difficult hike that ends in a pretty fun scramble. The whole way up, it was basically an unspoken race between me and two of my friends.

Why You Should Go Backpacking Right Now
Goat Lake was my first ever backpacking trip. It was early summer and I had a hard time deciding where to go. From the pictures that I saw, this hike looked amazing! But it was 10 miles round trip total. That might not seem like much, but I was a little intimidated by how far from civilization I would be with my first night in the backcountry.

Everest Base Camp
It's spring break of 2013, and I'm sitting on a rickety old fifteen passenger Twin Otter airplane with my dad and brother. It reeks of must, sweat, and slightly of mothballs. There's an ear-piercingly loud hum coming from the engine and propellers. *BUMP BUMP BUMP*—Tremendous turbulence starts sending shivers up my spine. We pass over hills and planes, flying along with the curves of the ground while soaring through the sky.

Why Travelling Is the Greatest Investment
As many of my friends and acquaintances know, I am an avid traveller. At the current age of 26 years, I have visited over 20 cities in 14 different countries across North America, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and Africa. I can tell you it has been the greatest investment in my life to travel as much as I have thus far.

The Power of Faith
I am remembering back to the time this photo was taken in November 2016. I had spent the past few weeks like a rolling stone, backpacking by myself through Oregon where I found a job working on a legal cannabis farm. Although I had decided I was ready to start heading home, I wasn't ready for the adventures to stop. I started in a rest stop in Southern Oregon. The first person I saw was an older man having lunch in his truck. "I am heading south," I said, "Can I have a ride?" He kindly agreed and off we went crossing the border lines into Northern California. After getting acquainted and exchanging a few stories, I had remembered that it was Election Day! I quickly realized how bold I really was!... Not only for hitchhiking across states but doing during the most controversial election day in history.

My First Mountain
If you look far to the right you can see the start of Mount Rainier, the mountain that ascends 14,410 feet above sea level. Rainier is an active volcano and is also the most glaciated mountain in the US. If it were a more clear day you could see the great city of Seattle. Who doesn't love Seattle? Before the morning fog came in I was able to see the space needle and the ferries going from port to port. The views were breathtaking on this mountain.

Exploring the Forgotten Spanish Countryside
As we made our way up through the flat landscape, occasionally glimpsing the edge of a vineyard or orange grove. We had no idea where exactly we were heading. You see, to us it's not the destination that's important, it's the journey you take to get there.

Backpacking 10 Essentials
Most people will tell you that they know what to take on a backpacking trip, but in all honesty most lists are all based on the 10 essentials, which is good. However, most of the lists lack detail into specifics and do not factor in the amount of weight the gear will actually take.

Secret Canyon Trail
Lightening clashes with millions of jewel stars dotting the onyx night. With each flash the sky pales a white-yellow. Moments later the slowly creeping night clouds would groan so loudly the sound echoes off the red rock canyon. The storm remains flashing on all sides of the scarred earth, still hours yet to climb over the muli-colored mountains and encompass the valley. The night sky goes deep before us in our pocket of clearness, miles from any light pollution. From mysterious night to pale lightening, the stars battle for their majesty only to be blocked out moments later by a more brilliant flash of light.

A Bite of the Big Apple
I wrote this back in March 2001 as part of a University application, after my brother and I visited New York for the first time. With today being what it is, and there being so much negativity surrounding New York today, I thought I'd share some of my happy memories of visiting my favourite place in the world.
