The capital of the African country of Burundi


Rusizi National Park is among the top attractions in Burundi. It has lots of natural beauty and a diverse range of wildlife. The main highlight of the park is the Rusizi River flowing through it. Visitors can take a boat safari upon the river. It is home to hippos, crocodiles, and many bird species.
Visitors can enjoy seeing the park by taking the walking trails along which they might see antelopes, monkeys, and other small mammals that inhabit the park. The lush vegetation and serene landscapes create a serene atmosphere. The park offers picnic areas and camping sites. There is a visitor center where you can get maps, information, and guidance.

Lake Taganyika is home to wildlife like hippos, crocodiles, and birds. Visitors can get boat tours on the lake. Clear waters and diverse underwater ecosystems make it perfect for snorkeling, diving, and observing colorful fish, cichlids, and freshwater jellyfish.

The Livingstone and Stanley Rock in Mugere near Lake Tanganyika commemorates British explorers David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley’s meeting on November 25, 1871. This site features a large rock with a commemorative inscription. It stands offering amazing views of the lake and surrounding hills. Visitors can walk along the shore, picnic, or just admire the view.

Bujumbura City Beach on the shores of Lake Tanganyika offers clear, turqoise waters with white sand. Visitors can soak up the sun and go swimming. There are water sports like jet skiing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. This beach is popular with both locals and visitors. There are many beachside restaurants to choose from. The beach hosts occasional live music performances and dance events. These events showcase traditional Burundian music and dance, providing tourists with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the local customs and traditions.

Saga Beach is known for its white sand and crystal-clear waters. It is located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika which is the second deepest lake in the world. Visitors can soak up the sun, swim, and snorkel. You can rent paddleboats, kayaks, and jet skis. The beach also has a volleyball court and beach soccer field. Beach chairs and umbrellas can be rented for comfort. There are beachside bars and restaurants for food and drinks.

Bujumbura Central Market is one of the top attractions in Bujumbura. Located in the heart of the city it is the place to have a unique and authentic shopping experience. There is a wide range of products from fresh fruits and vegetables to handmade crafts, clothing, and local spices. You can also sample the local cuisine from food stalls and street vendors.

Musee Vivant is a unique open-air museum letting visitors learn about the rich cultural heritage and wildlife of the country. The museum showcases a wide variety of indigenous animals, including crocodiles, snakes, monkeys, and birds. Visitors can observe these animals in their natural habitats and even have the chance to touch and hold some of them under the supervision of trained staff.

The museum also features traditional Burundian settlements giving an insight into the daily lives and customs of the ethnic groups that live in Burundi. You can explore traditional houses, see local handicrafts, and even learn about traditional agricultural practices. During weekends and holidays, cultural events such as traditional dance and music performances take place.
The Independence Monument (Pictured on top) is an iconic monument holding significant historical and cultural importance. It was erected in 1962 to commemorate the independence of Burundi from Belgium. It symbolizes the nation's struggle for freedom and its journey towards self-rule. Visitors can stroll through the surrounding park and the gardens offer a place for relaxation and picnics. The Independence Monument is also a popular gathering spot for locals and tourists alike.

Karera Falls is located a short drive from the city. The breathtaking cascading water plunges into a deep pool below. The falls is located in a lush green landscape. Visitors can hike through the wooded trails and see the diverse flora and fauna. There are opportunities for rock climbing and for swimming.

Ruvubu National Park is located in the eastern part of the country. It is home to diverse ecosystems among them savannah, riverine forests, wetlands, and grasslands. Visitors can enjoy seeing the hippos, elephants, crocodiles, buffalo, antelopes, and many bird species.

The focal point fo the park is the Ruvubu River which is one of the longest rivers in Burundi. It provides homes for birds and aquatic species. Visitors can take boating trips on the river. There are many hiking and walking trails surrounded by the beautiful wilderness. Local guides can be hired.

Bururi Forest Nature Reserve in Bururi Province is considered a sacred place connecting the heavens and earth. The reserve has diverse plant species among them native trees, ferns, and orchids.

This natural habitat is home to primates, birds and small mammals among them vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, Angolan colobus, and duiker species. There are more than 150 bitd species like the the African green broadbill, mountain buzzard, and Narina trogon. Visitors can enjoy the hiking trails.
Thermal Hot Springs attract both locals and visitors. These natural hot springs are scattered throughout the city. Temperature varies, typically ranging from 30°C to 60°C (86°F to 140°F), depending on location and time of year. For centuries, thermal hot springs have been significant in Burundian culture and believed to have healing properties.
