Thinking of visiting Northern Ireland this summer? You probably already know that it’s a beautiful country with fantastic coastlines and lively pubs but what else is there to do? Here are 6 reasons that might just make you want to book your flights today!

Portrush

The seaside town of Portrush has been ever-popular with locals and tourists alike for over 50 years and that doesn’t look like changing anytime soon. This little town really does Have everything you could possibly want as a tourist. You’ve got great beaches with fantastic waves for surfing, the Giant’s Causeway is a just a few minutes’ drive away, there are lots of great pubs and restaurants to enjoy and it has best amusements in the country with the famous Barry’s theme park at the centre of the town. The town also plays host to a very popular international youth football tournament every summer where the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool have been known to regularly enter teams.

Navan Centre

The Navan Fort is an outstanding ancient monument located just outside the historical city of Armagh. This fort was once the seat of the ancient Kings of Ulster and the centre offers visitors the chance to experience what life was like back then and learn about the myths and legends that surround these times. For adults there is the chance to learn about the fascinating history of the province of Ulster and for children there is a chance to dress up in traditional Celtic costumes, complete the Navan Fort Trial and dig in the archeo pit to find ancient artefacts.

Game of Thrones Tour

Northern Ireland has become a very popular location for TV shows and movies in recent years and it’s most famous export is Game of Thrones. The Game of Thrones tour attracts visitors from all over the world as they are guided through the well known locations from the show including the Belfast studio where a lot of the internal scenes are shot and the beautiful Dark Hedges near the North coast. This tour is a must-do for any true fan of the show.

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge

The Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge located on the North West coast just 15 minutes from our camping Barn, was erected way back in 1755 by salmon fishermen to help them cross over to a tiny fishing island. The bridge will test your bravery as you walk along it’s narrow boards to the island and then you will have to do it all over again to get back. You are advised not to look down but once you get to the other side there are stunning views of the Northern Irish coastline to enjoy. It’s definitely one for the bucket list.

The Titanic Centre

As you may already know the famous ocean liner Titanic was built in Belfast in 1912 and the city has remembered the tragic ship ever since. At the Titanic Centre you can explore the shipyard where it was designed and built, learn about how what it was like inside the great ship in the interactive museum and walk the decks of the SS Nomadic, the last remaining White Star Line ship. You will experience what the ship actually looked like inside in all its glory and find out exactly what happened when it sank to the foot of the ocean.

Ulster American Folk Park

The Ulster American Folk Park in Enniskillen is a completely immersive experience where you will be transported to another world which will show you first hand what life was like hundreds of years ago both here in Ireland and for those who left for the new world of America. There are real thatched cottage villages, logged cabins and lots of authentically dressed characters who will interact with you and narrate the story of the Irish people along the way. There is also an exact replica of an immigrant ship that would have sailed to America where you can board and learn about the trials and tribulations they would have faced on their journey. The folk park really is a must do for any family visiting Northern Ireland.
