Who Are T.V.'s Toughest Ladies?
My Pick for Top 5 Female Action Stars on Television
Hollywood. The glitz and glamour of the screen, the center of entertainment in America and the world. Known for its' famous people, beautiful women, and the hustle and bustle lifestyle. Many have gone there seeking fame and fortune only to end up strung out and used by the magic city. For all of its' glitz and glamour, its' triumph and tragedies, there are those that get there and make good on their dreams of being stars. In the center of the action that is Hollywood, there are those that thrive by being absolutely badass. These stronger, bigger-than-life characters, take us on their adventures and capture our imaginations with their grandiose stories and incredible, god-like physiques. These are my picks for the toughest of the tough chics gracing movies and television screens.
Caity Lotz-Legends of Tomorrow's White Canary

Caity Lotz, perhaps best known for her role as the Arrow's believed dead girlfriend, Sara Lance, makes the list because of her character, athletic ability, and appeal as an action hero. Coming back from the dead after the downing of the Queen's Gambit, Sara appears as the deadly League of Assassins trained Black Canary. Along with her two years of acting training before starting her career with small roles in movies and television, Caity is a legitimate martial artist, trained in Taekwondo, Wushu, Krav Maga, Arnis, and Muay Thai. She's practiced in parkour and tricking as well.
Roles in Bring It On: All or Nothing to the 2013 feature, The Machine, have lead Caity Lotz to success as her Arrow character was transitioned from a recurring role to the lead in the spin-off, Legends of Tomorrow, where she made her directorial debut in season fives Mortal Khanbat. Dying first in season one of Arrow, again in season three, and then moving on to being an ass-kicking time traveler might not win an Academy or Golden Globe awards but the thirty-four-year-old has parlayed her efforts into a following, a two-million-dollar net worth, and a position as one of television's leading ass-kickers.
Gabrielle Union-LA's Finest Syd Burnett

LA's Finest follows the sister of Bad Boys character, Marcus Burnett, who was last seen in Bad Boys 2 taking down a drug cartel. She's left her unconventional life behind her along with the DEA and moved on to becoming an LAPD Detective, partnered up with Jessica Alba as Nancy McKenna, who's also lead a less than conventional life going into the series. Anyone with the chops to carry on in the legacy of the Bad Boys series has to receive an honorable mention and the fact that it's the lovely Ms. Gabrielle Union makes it all the more worth mentioning.
Sadly, the show gets canceled just weeks after becoming a top ten hit on Netflix. With no word yet on a season two release on Netflix, for those of us that didn't know about the entertaining, buddy cop show, we may never know what was next for Syd or Nancy who saw more than their share of grief during the first season. However, much like her character in Bad Boys, Syd proves to be every bit the renegade, action star on television that she was in the movie, rivaling even Martin Lawrence's adventures with Will Smith. In the age of television show revivals, this is one I hope gets a breath of new life on a different station or streaming service. Maybe Netflix can pick it up? Just a thought.
Chloe Bennet-Quake/Daisy/Skye Agents of Shield

In the Marvel Universe, anybody can be a superhero, and the character of Quake/Daisy/Skye is arguably one of my very favorites. Chloe Bennet first appears as the lovably, quirky, computer hacker, Skye. She has a gift for getting herself into trouble as she gets' close to a mysterious "Hero" in Mike Peterson as the returning Agent of Shield, Phil Coulson, has a new team and is on the hunt for threats and powered people. Skye, through her "hacktivist" group, the Rising Tide, already steps ahead of the new team of Shield Agents and finds herself the target of Coulson's recruitment to Shield. "She's an asset," Coulson tells Ward, as the team's specialist and scoundrel to be, objects to bringing on another civilian.
Over the course of the first two seasons, we get to see the maturing of a character from innocent, idealistic, rebelliousness to the super-powered heroine that takes the lead alongside Coulson. While saving the world from evil threats, Chloe Bennet has given herself a place in the Marvel Universe, fans widely wanting her return to the rumored Agents of SWORD or SWORD Series. It's easy to imagine we'll be seeing this 28yr old star for a long time to come.
Lucy Lawless-ZENA WARRIOR PRINCESS

The New Zealand Icon brought sexy to the strong feminine hero character twenty-five years ago when she first premiered as Xena: Warrior Princess in the series Hercules, the Legendary Journeys in 1995. That quickly garnered Lucy her own spin-off show and introduced television fans to the warrior queen and one of the strongest female characters of the middle 1990s era. While things may have slowed down for the Hollywood veteran, she has remained active through television roles in such series as Battlestar Galactica and the Adam Sandler Movie Bedtime Stories, also fellow A.O.S. alum, Chloe Bennet, by showing that girls can be kick ass on the show Agents of Shield, even though she didn't have any special powers.
Lesley Ann Brandt-Maze, Lucifer

As the bodyguard demon to the titular character in a show about the Devil himself, Lesley Ann Brandt personifies the badass female character. She's sexy, she's smart, she's quick-witted and fearless. Brandts' character of the fiery barmaid/bodyguard to Lucifer Morning star is without a doubt one of the toughest female characters on television, albeit it a morally ambiguous one.
