Stop Harassing Women who Smoke
If We're Old Enough to Buy them, Let us Enjoy our Purchase

I could have smoked three cigarettes for how long it took me to find the right image to put with this article. I'm sure the AI generators don't struggle like I do trying to force an image into the pixel spot wanting a specific mood/look but not getting the number of pixels correct. Ugh. Ok, now that I've vented, what was I wanting to talk about today? Oh yeah, women who smoke. I did not light a cigarette while I wrote this venting prelude paragraph. I just wanted you to know that because as I move on to the next paragraph, I'm going to refill my coffee cup and then light a cigarette.
Are you a cigarette smoker like me? Do other women or men make you feel guilty or crazy or like some lepper just because you enjoy smoking a cigarette? Yeah, it's just plain awful. I've been tolerating those haters and bullies for half of my life and this article editorial has been brewing for at least 30 years. Doctors don't prescribe nicotine or cigarettes and they are known to promote the negative effects of tobacco smoking. So if you like smoking, definitely don't ask a doctor for an opinion about it. Smokers tend to enjoy hanging out with other smokers for the understanding and love shared between them. They know that they are not smoking cigarettes because they are "crazy" or so addicted that they can't choose to "break free" from their slave chains. No. They know the benefits of smoking and they have chosen NOT to quit their enjoyment and benefits.
Those who have opposed the smokers and harassed them with questions like "Why would you spend so much money on a pack of cigarettes?" or rude comments like "You know those things are going to kill you," or cursing our enjoyment with an even ruder nickname like "Cancer Sticks" are just haters who are either jealous that they don't smoke and want to, or angry that we didn't choose the same path as them. Get over it.
We (the smokers) have been listening to the "Truth" campaigns and "Anti-Smoking' campaigns from the smoker-haters for the past thirty years and we are very aware of all the negative effects you've drilled into our brains. Let me show you how much you haters have educated me. Smoking causes cancer, COPD, heart disease, birth defects, and on average a smoker loses 14 years of their life. So if the person would have lived to be 90, the life will probably only last to be 75. 8 million deaths occur worldwide per year because of smoking. Thank you very much for those very interesting facts.
Now, on behalf of the smokers who have decided like me that we wish to continue smoking, I'd like to explain how and why we are NOT 'crazy' or "suicidal". There are plenty of benefits to smoking that are hardly ever mentioned because the ANTI-smoking campaign has been the more popular "truth" of the majority in my culture for the past thirty years.
Starting with cigarette history, we go back to Spain in the 1800's. After it became manufactured in mass quantities, worldwide popularity spread and it became glamorous and acceptable behavior in big cities like London and New York for most of the 1900's. Do you ever wonder why it was considered glamorous and/or acceptable? Was there any other reason besides corporate or medical greed? I think so. I'm going to be bold enough to state an inverse opinion to medical facts. I believe that smoking cigarettes saves lives.
BENEFITS OF SMOKING CIGARETTES
It's not just an addiction. Smokers who choose to keep smoking after they've learned how to beat the addiction, choose to keep smoking for the pleasure and benefits received from smoking. If smoking had NO benefits what-so-ever, NO ONE would smoke, and NO ONE would pay for a pack of cigarettes.
There is enough evidence to suggest that both the smoking process and even the addictive nicotine offer protective effects on Hypertensive Disorders which could include ADD (Attention Defecit Disorder), GAD (General Anxiety Disorder) and Hyper-Activity (which many children were put on Ritalin for). I'm saying that if you don't want to see a kid with a cigarette in their mouth, why would you put a kid on Ritalin? Why not just give them the Nicotine gum?
Another benefit of smoking which many people were not aware about is anti-nausea. If a person is sensitive to smells and tastes, the cigarette acts as a neutralizer similar to how a antacid eases the discomfort of heartburn and indigestion.
Cigarette smoking is also known to produce an Anti-estrogen effect similar to Birth Control pills. Estrogen regulates menstruation and promotes pregnancy. So if you want to have lots of babies, then by all means you should NOT smoke cigarettes. But if you're poor and can't afford to feed lots of babies or your insurance company doesn't cover birth control pills and you're afraid of getting "raped" --- maybe you could get a pack of cigarettes and make that baby making machine less desirable. Great benefit!
There are studies now showing in science labs that cigarette smoking may also prevent Parkinson's Disease and Alzhiemer's.
Without lab stats or research, most smokers already know that smoking provides a "relaxation" therapy and less stress means less ulcers. Also, putting a cigarette in our mouths instead of another donut, means less calories, less fat, and less diseases related to obesity.
FINAL NOTE to the ANTI-SMOKERS and Harrassers of Choice
German doctors began the Anti-Tobacco movement in Nazi Germany after discovering the link between smoking and lung cancer. Perhaps a noble intention became a plague of madness with "Second-hand smoke" complainers who forget that they've not done enough research on emissions and natural air contaminants also known as smog. So when you're in a gas-fueled airplane thanking the gods that smokers are not allowed on the airplane with you, just remember there's a god somewhere who knows how much air pollution your plane ticket just emitted.
TO MY FELLOW SMOKERS
Thank you for Smoking.

Thank you for smoking? Oy. It’s an addiction. Period. Like heroin. The perceived “benefits” are so far outweighed by the negatives that it’s pointless to try and point them out. Smoking is not only devastating for your health, it’s harmful to the people around you. Cigarette smoke that is absorbed by the walls and carpets of homes can create health problems for the people who move in after the smoker has moved out. Im all for people doing their own thing. I don’t like being told by the government or some socialist group think as to the way I should live, or think or spend my money. That being said, when your choice has negative and sometimes deadly consequences for people around you, that’s a problem. No matter how many well written opinion pieces you may write about them, there is no way to make smoking catastrophic for your health. Addictions are hard. Smoking in particular is very hard to kick bc there are a lot of emotional attachments that are tied to smoking. The act itself is attached to feeling relaxed, feeling connected to social groups and positive experiences. It is something that appears to draw people together as opposed to the isolation, shame and fear of legal consequences that surround equally addictive but very illegal substances. The social-emotional tie in to the very act of smoking make it a multilevel emotional experience. It can be hard to give that up. But I hope you do. Your health will be better for it.
I am fine with people smoking, though I don't like having to breathe their exhaled smoke. I remember years ago working at a place which had a room for smokers, but not one for non-smokers. I have many friends who smoke, and we get along just fine.
