Frida Kahlo
To be a hero can be interpreted many ways by different people. Frida Kahlo can be considered heroic for several reasons. Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter who was born in 1907. She inspired people of many different backgrounds and challenges. She faced extreme physical and mental obstacles herself. Some people may argue that, as an artist, Frida Kahlo was only painting for the money, especially because a lot of her work has been put on display. Even though some believe this, Frida Kahlo should be considered a hero because she demonstrates the qualities of caring, courage and patience.

Self-Portraits for Women's Equality
Germany and Mexico sit on two different ends of the world, yet Paula Modersohn-Becker and Frida Kahlo responded to women's equality through self-portraits. Modersohn-Becker was a German painter who painted Self-Portrait with an Amber Necklace in 1906. "[She became one of] the first modern woman artist to challenge centuries of traditional representation of the female body in art.” On the contrary, Kahlo was a Mexican painter who painted Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird in 1940. “[Similar to Paula, Frida was] one of the women to fully express herself through art, a feminist putting women’s issues at the forefront of her work.” The analysis of Self-Portrait with an Amber Necklace and Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird will focus on the representation of the female body, cultural perception, and art style to show that the works of their art changed the rules, broke barriers, and challenged the status quo through their self-portraits for women's equality.

Feminist Pharaohs
Since I was a child, Ancient Egyptians have fascinated me. Their religious system alone could be turned into an incredible fantasy novel with barely any tweaking, and their insistence on decorating even the most simple jugs as if they were priceless artwork baffled my young self, having grown up in a culture that treats mobile phones as throwaway recyclables, but as I've grown older I've started finding different aspects of this ancient civilisation interesting.

Why Don't Women Just Come Forward?
In recent years, there have been many allegations of sexual abuse that allegedly happened in the past, the most recent being Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. This particular incident happened over 30 years ago in which he supposedly groped, grinded on, and held his hand over her mouth. People are wondering why she didn’t come forward sooner. I can only speak from a male perspective of my own.
