I'm Tired and Angry
Capitalism and patriarchy played, and still play, a major role in sex inequality. However, some Marxists would argue that patriarchy, the unequal power relationship between men and women, has been around long before capitalism. Therefore, how could capitalism play a role? Easy, capitalism is controlled by private owners for profit instead of the sate. Which means, like capitalism’s private owners, the men of high stature in a patriarchal society are the “controllers” of the inequalities happening between the sexes. As these men continue to obtain power, the inequalities between females and males continue to grow, as do the generations to fuel capitalism. Socialist-feminist theorists say that patriarchy reenforces the idea that women are to be housewives and mothers, while capitalism reenforces the idea that men are to be the breadwinners of their families. They say, the division of labor, as it were, brings the private-domestic, and public-economic spheres into contact.

However, if you asked about a single most influential women of the 20th century, we would point to Margaret Thatcher without any hesitation, as she has changed the course of history once and forever.

History's Baddest Bitches
Tomoe Gozen A painting of Tomoe Gozen by Chikanobu (now at the Walter Art Museum) Many people know about the male samurai warriors of Japan, but did you know that women were samurais too? Toemoe Gozen was a concubine turned samurai during the Genpei civil war (imagine Game of Thrones style conflict of "who sits on the throne") during the 12th century in Japan. The war was between the Taira and Minamoto clans. Unfortunately, due to the contradictory nature of medieval sources and legends written over the years, Tomoe's personal life remains a mystery. But historians know of her love life and military career. Tomoe was a concubine to Lord Kiso no Yoshinaka (otherwise known as Minamoto no Yoshinaka), and was known as his lover or one of many wives. She was known as a FIERCE warrior who was skilled in archery, horseback, and long sword. Tomoe has been depicted decapitating her enemies (you know just casually as one samurai does) on the battlefield. One of her biggest military accomplishments is when she defeated seven mounted warriors, and collected their chopped off heads (and displayed them like Oscar trophies). No wonder Lord Kiso no Yoshinaka made her a leading general in his army. But after years of chopping off heads of her enemies, Lord Kiso no Yoshinaka was killed. No one really knows what happened to Tomoe after that. Some say she was captured by the enemy and became a concubine again. And others say she became a Buddhist nun and died at the old age of 91. One legend tells that she stole Lord Kiso no Yoshinaka's head from the enemy and walked into the ocean and drowned (how romantically tragic). There is a statute of her and Lord Kiso no Yoshinaka at Tokuonji, the Kiso family temple located northwest of the city of Kyoto.

Be the B*tch
I am, as most people call it, a bitch. No, I am not mean to people for no reason. No, I don't stir up trouble and give my "honest" (actually just rude and not needed) opinion. I just stand up for myself. I choose who I'm around and I'm no afraid to speak up about being treated like a doormat, like most women deal with every day. I feel like especially around men, I come off as a bitch because I act like them. I don't let people of all genders treat me a certain way, and it rubs some people the wrong way. At work, at home, with friends, in relationships, I am not afraid to fight for what is right by me (reasonably so of course, again I'm a bitch, I'm not mean). I don't let people railroad me. I don't let men treat me any which way, and I make sure they know it. You should do the same. You should be the bitch, because it is a life-changer.

Menstrual Hygiene Day brings to light the importance of feminine hygiene, and therefore brings attention to all the women around the world who may not have access to the hygiene products they need to be healthy and comfortable. As a woman living in America, I often think about how privileged I am in many ways, but I don’t think often enough about those women who don’t have these basic necessities. I hardly ever think about the fact that I am so privileged to be able to have my choice of what kind of hygiene product I will use, while some women do not have any options at all, let alone enough to get them through their cycle. Many girls in developing countries do not even have access to accurate information regarding feminine hygiene. There are brands out there who are on a mission of good, brands like Intimina who will educate people on women’s hygiene products and even donate proceeds and products to someone who needs it.

I suffer from really bad cramps when I am on my period, so I have found so many little life hacks that might help you. Always, and I mean ALWAYS carry an emergency period kit. I have had so many embarrassing moments because I did not have a kit on me. I have had accidents at school and I have always been so scared to ask anyone for a pad or a tampon, so now I always have something with me. In your kit keep your preferred period items (pads, tampons or a cup) and painkillers.
