Will Britt Baker’s Exit Hurt AEW’s Women’s Division
How will Britt Baker’s rumored departure impact AEW?

Britt Baker is one of AEW’s top female wrestlers. She’s been a prominent part of the company since its launch in 2019 and is considered the face of the women’s division. The former AEW Women’s Champion has achieved many milestones, yet a series of injuries sidelined her.
She returned at the 2024 Forbidden Door PPV after a nine-month hiatus. Baker later revealed she was out with two herniated disks, a torn hip labrum, and later had a mini-stroke. Fans rallied behind her as she stepped back into the ring, intent on reclaiming her spot in the women's division.
Yet, following her loss to Mercedes Mone at All In, Baker again disappeared from television. She returned in November for a match on Dynamite, where a feud with Serena Deeb was teased. But since then she’s been MIA, and she might not return.
Reason For Absence
Whenever a wrestler disappears from television, speculation about injuries or contracts begins. Baker's recent absence has raised concerns, but the star reassured fans she's fine.
During an interview on DDP Gauntlet in December, she revealed she's filming other projects. Most recently, Baker appeared as Oksana on Season 6 of the Netflix series Cobra Kai.
With Baker's projects keeping her busy, her absence will extend a bit longer.
However, according to PWTorch, fans might never see Baker on AEW again.
Wrestling journalist Wade Keller revealed that Baker’s backstage attitude is the reason for her absence and her job being in jeopardy. The star is reportedly “unpopular” with most of the women’s locker room and is “difficult to work with.”
Throughout her time in AEW, stories about Baker’s backstage attitude have emerged. She and Thunder Rosa’s onscreen feud turned into a real-life rivalry. Baker repeatedly called out the legitimacy of Rosa’s injuries and accused her of sandbagging during matches.
Baker’s most recent backstage incident happened in August 2024. The star made a negative comment about MJF, which his girlfriend Alicia Atout overheard. The couple later confronted Baker, and the altercation led to her getting suspended.
Will Britt Baker Be A Huge Loss To AEW?
There have been many AEW wrestlers who’ve departed the company. Cody Rhodes, Jade Cargill, and Ethan Page are a few big names who’ve left.
So, could Baker be the next wrestler to say goodbye?
Keep in mind that these are just rumors. Baker or AEW have not spoken about her contract status.
Baker is one of AEW’s originals and the first female wrestler they signed. She helped shape the women’s division and accomplished many milestones. She and Thunder Rosa made history by being the first women to main-event Dynamite in an Unsanctioned Lights Out match. Whether fans loved or disliked her, she drew much attention to the women’s division.
There's still much for her to do in her career and many dream feuds in AEW. She and Serena Deeb would be a great match if and when Baker returns. Also, Jamie Hayter, Deonna Purrazzo, and Willow Nightingale would make worthy rivals.
While it would be sad to see an AEW homegrown talent leave, Baker’s departure won’t hurt the company.
AEW has added more wrestlers to its female roster, including Toni Storm, Mariah May, and Mercedes Mone. With all that star power, the women’s division has been fine during Baker’s absence.
With Baker’s injuries and her rumored ego, AEW might feel it’s best to let her go. They’ve had plenty of backstage drama over the years (CM Punk’s All In incidents) and probably don’t want anymore.
It remains to be seen when or if Baker will return to AEW. Either way, the company will be fine, and hopefully, Baker will find success in whatever she chooses.
