Kierstan "Bad Ass" Bell is Tearing It Up

Florida Gulf Coast 88, Manhattan 57

In the opening of the ASUN/MAAC Challenge took place as Florida Gulf Coast (4-0) throttled Manhattan by 33 points in Kissimmee, Florida. Kierstan Bell who averaged 24.3 points and 10.6 rebounds per game last season is kicking the season off averaging 27.8 points and 9.3 rebounds after the first four games this season. She scored 31 points against Manhattan draining five of her 11 three-point attempts for the winners. She also blocked a season high three shots.

Kendall Spray shot 6-8 from three for Florida Gulf Coast, on her way to 19 points. She also had four rebounds and three assists. Spray is on fire from three this season, shooting 20-32 (62 percent) from long distance. Tishara Morehouse scored 11 points off of the bench and starter Emma List led the team with seven assists and only two turnovers.

No. 22 West Virginia 78, Kennesaw State 58

Jasmine Carson came off of the bench to lead West Virginia (2-0) with 14 points in 18 minutes of action. The 5-10 senior guard from Memphis, Tennessee shots 5-6, including 4-5 from three. KK Deans led West Virginia with seven assists and just two turnovers. She also scored 12 points, despite struggling on 3-10 shooting. She countered that by going 5-5 from the free-throw line. West Virginia's top frontcourt player, Esmery Martinez posted her first double-double of the year with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She has shot 14-21, (66 percent) from the field in the Mountaineers first two contests.

Kari Niblack led West Virginia with two blocks. She also posted two steals and six points. Kennesaw State was led in scoring by Amani Johnson, who posted 14 points, four assists and three steals.

Rutgers 68, Harvard 65 OT

Harvard started the season 0-2, before beating Northern Illinois 70-53 on Nov. 14. The Ivy League scholars stepped up to face Big Ten challenger Rutgers (4-1) and came close to pulling a big upset.

After a third period where Harvard outscored the hosts 21-8, it took a 52-34 lead into the fourth quarter before Rutgers flipped the script. Rutgers outscored Harvard 25-7 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, where it won 9-6. Osh Brown, of Rutgers, was a rebounding machine with 19 boards to go along with nine points, three assists and a steal. Lasha Petree led Rutgers with 17 points shooting 3-6 from long distance. She also had four steals, three rebounds and two blocks.

Harvard got a strong game from Maggie McCarthy, who scored 16 points with four rebounds and four steals. Tess Sussman, just missed a double-double for Harvard scoring 10 points with eight rebounds.

On a strange note, both teams were horrid from the free-throw line. Harvard shot 27 percent from the free-throw line shooting 3-11 from the stripe. Rutgers also struggled from the line going 8-20 making 40 percent of its free-throws.

Nov. 18

San Francisco 73, UC Davis 46

In front of 513 fans, San Francisco improved to 2-1 as Ioanna Krimili and Jasmine Gayles joined forces to topple their visiting opponent. Krimili is a usual high scorer. She posted 21 points shooting 8-13, including 3-6 from three. So far this season she is averaging 18.7 points in the first three games of the season. Krimili has shot 9-17, which is 52 percent, from long distance.

Gayles is averaging 16.7 points per game as she scored 21 points as well. She shot 8-15 from the field. Gayles had a season low one turnover as she entered the game averaging three turnovers in the first two games. The 5-7 junior guard is shooting 58 percent from the field making 18-of-31 shots after three games.
