Nov. 12
Oregon State 82, Loyola Marymount 52
Talia von Oelhoffen started her season with a bang scoring 19 points, collecting five steals, three rebounds and three assists during Oregon State's season opening win. After a close first quarter where the Beavers led Loyola Marymount 18-15, the victorious home team outscored its opponent 49-23 over the next two periods.
Taylor Jones led the Beavers in rebounding with eight, while blocking two shots and scoring 15 points. AJ Marotte was the top Oregon State reserve shooting 6-9 and scoring 15 points in 18 minutes. Kennedy Brown also came off the bench to score 10 points, pull down five rebounds and pass out three assists.
Taya Corosdale was a leader for Oregon State on defense with four blocks. She also had seven rebounds and two steals. Oregon State had 23 assists while Loyola Marymount had 12. Ariel Johnson and Khari Clark led Loyola Marymount with 12 points each.
Towson 87, Florida 70
We should've known something was up when Towson put up 113 points in an exhibition win. In the first round of the Preseason WNIT Classic, Towson thumped Florida 87-70 in front of just 200 fans on a neutral court in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Towson's Aleah Nelson set the court on fire scoring 39 points in 38 minutes. She shot 6-7 from three-point land. When she wasn't scoring she was dropping dimes and rebounding. Nelson got eight boards and eight assists to go along with two steals.
Tarriyonna Gary shot 4-6 from three and scored 16 points for the winners. Towson shot 39 percent overall but 63 percent from three shooting 12-19 from downtown. Florida's usual top offensive stars Kiara Smith and Lavender Briggs had a hard night going a combined 5-23 from the field. Smith had eight points, while Briggs had seven. The Gators did get quality a game from Jordyn Merritt who had 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. Reserve Kristina Moore had 12 points, shooting 4-5 and six rebounds.
Tennessee 49, UCF 41
The Lady Vols of Tennessee invaded UCF's homecourt and grabbed its second win of the season during a competitive battle.
UCF's 2,819 fans saw their team hang tough during a low scoring first quarter that saw Tennessee escape with a 10-9 lead. The Lady Vols took off in the second quarter outscoring UCF (1-1), who shot 1-10, 16-5, taking a 26-14 lead into the half. UCF stormed out of the intermission outscoring Tennessee 16-8, taking momentum into the fourth quarter.
After shooting a game high 42 percent in the third, UCF cooled back off shooting just 4-14 in the final period.
Jordan Horston had an unofficial triple-double. She struggled with 11 turnovers but countered that with 14 points and 11 rebounds. No other Tennessee player scored over 10 points. The Lady Vols won the game on the glass outrebounding UCF 42-32.
Diamond Battles led all players with 21 points. She shot 7-7 from the free-throw line, while also collecting four rebounds, three steals and a block. Like Horston, Battles struggled with turnovers, leading her team with seven giveaways. Battles was the only UCF player to score double-digits. Destiny Thomas posted a team best 11 rebounds for UCF off of the bench.
Nov. 11
Eastern Kentucky 74, Transylvania 51
Ariel Kirkwood was ferocious on the boards as Eastern Kentucky won it's home opener in front of 500 fans. Kirkwood snagged 14 rebounds, six of which were on the offensive end. She led the Eastern Kentucky rebounding charge that saw her team outrebound Transylvania 55-36. Kirkwood also led all players with three blocked shots to go along with eight points.
Three Colonels scored double-digits. Two reserves, Kayra Freeman and Kalissa Lacy scored 11 and 10 points respectively. Bria Bass was the lone starter to score in double-figures with 10. Bass was tied with reserve I'Liyah Green, grabbing seven rebounds each.
Transylvania was led in scoring by Kennedi Stacy's 14 points.
