Cincinnati 77, Ohio 44
With four players in double digits, 50 percent shooting from the field, including 60 percent from three, visiting Cincinnati overpowered Ohio to improve to 6-5, in Athens, Ohio.
Dais'ja Trotter came off of the bench to score a team best 13 points for the Bearcats making three-of-five triples in 19 minutes.
"It was natural for me," Trotter said. "I was just glad I could help my team finish out with the victory. I couldn't have made the shots I made without assists from my fellow teammates."
The 5-9 senior guard from Louisville, Kentucky entered the game averaging 1.9 points in her first seven NCAA Division I games. After scoring just four points in her first five games in very limited minutes, she has scored 22 points in her last three games. Trotter was a big-time scorer on the junior college level. Over three seasons and 74 games she averaged 19.9 points at Rend Lake College. She averaged a career best 24.4 points per game last season.
Cincinnati reserve Caitlyn Wilson hassled Ohio from long range as well. She shot 4-5 from three, scoring 12 points. Starter Braylyn Milton also scored 12 points as she went a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc.
The Bearcats dominated the game on a physical level as they outrebounded the smaller and banged up Bobcats that are dealing with injuries, 44-22. Reserve Malea Williams pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Cincinnati. The 6-3 forward also led the team with four assists.
Ohio had a rough night shooting as well, going 16-51, for 31.4 percent. The Bobcats got a strong offensive performance from guard Yaya Felder who shot 7-12 and a perfect 3-3 from the free-throw line on her way to 18 points. She is averaging 17.2 points per game. The sophomore from Hartford, Connecticut is averaging 20 points per game over her last six contests. Felder also had a team high three steals, while sharing the lead of four assists with Caitlyn Kroll.
Cincinnati's top scorer for the season Jillian Hayes was the fourth Bearcat in double figures. She had 10 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Hayes is averaging 14.9 points after the first 11 games of the season.
Florida Atlantic 70, Florida International 60
Alexa Zaph led Florida Atlantic with 18 points in a home win. She made nine of her 10 free-throw attempts. Zaph, a 5-8 senior guard from Jupiter, Florida, entered the game averaging 10.3 points per game. She started the season averaging 6.2 points per game in her first four appearances. Since then she is averaging 16.2 points over her last four games. Florida Atlantic improved to 7-1 after the win and 1-0 in Conference USA play. Florida International dropped to 4-4 and 0-1 in the Conference USA standings.
Santa Clara 81, San Jose State 49
Freshman guard Tess Heal scored 21 points on 8-11 shooting as she led Santa Clara (9-4) to a blowout home win. The native of Melbourne, Australia also dished out five assists and collected one steal. Heal has scored at least 20 points in four games this season. She is averaging 15.9 points per game after her first 12 collegiate contests. Her teammate senior guard Lexie Pritchard scored 18 points on 8-12 shooting.
Santa Clara shot 56.6 percent from the field and dominated the boards 38-23. San Jose State shot 34 percent overall, including 18.8 percent from three making just three of its 18 attempts.
