A look at women's basketball talents

Aneesah, Rickea, Naomi & Jada

College basketball is in off-season mode but that doesn't mean we can't look back at the talent that made the 2021-22 season a success. Let's check out some of the women that you may or may not know but should on the hardcourt.

Aneesah Morrow - DePaul

When the 2022-23 season starts, all eyes will be on Aneesah Morrow of DePaul. The best freshman in the NCAA and one of the top players in the game, Morrow led the nation in rebounding at 13.8 boards per game. The 6-1, forward from Chicago, Illinois grabbed 14 or more rebounds in 22 of her 33 appearances. Morrow posted a high of 27 rebounds but more on that in a bit. She also averaged 21.9 points per game, which was 11th in the NCAA. In the game where Morrow grabbed 27 rebounds, she also scored 22 points. Her best scoring effort came when she posted 41 points with 18 rebounds in a game against Creighton. Morrow's first 30-point game came in her debut, when she scored 31 against Texas Southern in the season opener. She closed her season in the NCAA Tournament when she scored 28 points with 17 rebounds and four blocked shots against Dayton.

Rickea Jackson - Mississippi State (Tennessee Transfer)

Detroit native Rickea Jackson is a talented scoring forward who played her first three seasons at Mississippi State. In 15 games last season she posted a career best average of 20.3 points per game. Her best outing was a dominant 40-point effort against Mcneese where she scored on 18 of her 26 shot attempts. In her second to last game at Mississippi State, Jackson scored 27 points against Georgia. She scored at least 20 points in at least eight games last season. Jackson also had two double-doubles, posting 17 points and 11 rebounds against Boston College before getting 24 points with 12 rebounds against Jackson State. Over her first 67 games, Jackson has scored 1085 points with 354 rebounds. Jackson will continue her career at Tennessee during the 2022-23 season.

Jada Holland - UC Riverside

A 5-6 guard from Pleasanton, California, Jada Holland averaged a career best 11.7 points per game during her second season at UC Riverside. Holland scored a season high 24 points with five assists and three rebounds against UC Davis. She shot a season best 5-9 from three-point land. In a game against Illinois, Holland posted 19 points with five assists and four rebounds as she shot 3-6 from three. In her first six games Holland posted at least five assists. She had her top defensive game against Cal Lutheran where she posted six steals to go along with 18 points, five assists and four rebounds. During a semifinal appearance in the Big West Conference against Hawaii, Holland scored 15 points, dished out five assists, with four rebounds and three steals in the final game of the season.

Naomi Hunt - UC Irvine

A 6-1 forward from Fullerton, California Naomi Hunt's numbers in 2021-22 dipped but she still made key contributions to her team which landed it an opportunity to compete in the Women's National Invitational Tournament. Hunt's biggest game of the season came when she scored 17 points and 12 rebounds in an early season win over Sacramento State. During a two-game stretch in the month of December, Hunt made eight of 15 three-point shots scoring a combined 29 points in games against San Jose State and Arizona State. Hunt scored 11 points in the team's WNIT appearance which was a loss to UCLA. She averaged a career low of 6.2 points after a career best scoring average of 12.2 during the 2020-21 season. Hunt is a career 35.8 percent three-point shooter, as her best showing was during her freshman season in 2017-18 when she made 44 percent of her shots from long range.
