Top Scoring Players on Fantasy Football (Week 9)

Analyzing the highest scoring players, by position, during Week 9 of the 2024 season

By Clyde E. DawkinsPublished about a year ago 3 min read

Week 9's end marked the end of the first half of the NFL's regular season. Nine weeks down, nine to go. However, in the world of Fantasy Football, the home stretch is closing in. It's almost time for us Fantasy Football owners to start preparing for the playoffs, or possibly consolation, and Week 9 was quite a week in Fantasy Football. It definitely was for me, one of my teams improved to 8-1, and all eight of my teams are in a playoff position.

As for Week 9, let's take a look at who dominated each position:

QB: Joe Burrow

Here's how fantasy scoring works for quarterbacks: 1 point per every 25 passing yards (or 0.04 points per passing yard), and passing touchdowns are 4 points each. Interceptions are usually a 1 point deduction, and lost fumbles are a 2 point deduction. Joe Burrow took the lead for QBs in Week 9, which is no surprise. Burrow's numbers: 251 yards (10.04 points) and five touchdowns (20 points); ran for 11 yards (1.1 points), but threw an interception (1 point deduction). A grand total of 30.14 points, edging out last week's QB leader, Jalen Hurts, by only 0.24 points.

RB: Saquon Barkley

Saquon Barkley is not messing around this season. Fantasy scoring for running backs goes like this: 1 point per 10 rushing yards, and touchdowns are 6 points. Receiving scoring rules also apply; 1 point per 10 receiving yards, and touchdowns are 6 points, and there's also PPR (Points Per Reception). Barkley's numbers: 159 rushing yards (15.9 points) and a touchdown (6 points), and also had 3 receptions (3 points), 40 yards (4 points), and a touchdown (6 points), but lost a fumble (2 point deduction). A grand total of 32.9 points, good enough for Barkley to take the lead for RBs in Week 9--edging De'Von Achane by 4/5 of a point.

WR: Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Scoring for WRs goes like this: PPR is applied, and most leagues awards a full point per reception. Also, it's 1 point for every 10 receiving yards, and touchdowns are 6 points each. While DeAndre Hopkins really tore it up on Monday Night Football, he didn't come close to the lead in the WR category, which was owned by Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Usually a WR3 for the Seahawks, JSN's numbers: 7 receptions (7 points), 180 yards (18 points), two touchdowns (12 points). 37 fantasy points for JSN in Week 9!

TE: Mike Gesicki

Mike Gesicki really benefited from Joe Burrow's big performance in Week 9, as he ended up taking the lead for tight ends. Scoring for TEs is the same as scoring for WRs, and regarding Gesicki, he had 5 receptions (5 points), 100 yards (10 points), and 2 touchdowns (12 points), for a grand total of 27 points. Gesicki finished five points ahead of Travis Kelce, who also reached the century mark in receiving yards in Week 9.

K: Tyler Bass

Bills fans seriously owe Tyler Bass an apology, as he took the lead for kickers in Week 9. Here's how scoring for kickers goes: extra points are 1 point, of course. Regarding field goals, those under 40 yards are worth 3 points, 40-49 yard FGs are worth 4 points, and those 50 yards or longer are worth 5 points. Bass made one extra point (1 point), two 40-yarders (8 points), and his clutch 61 yarder (5 points), totalling 14 fantasy points. Like I said, Bills fans owe that man an apology.

DEF: Los Angeles Rams

Here's how scoring for team defenses goes. Regarding scoring defenses, a shutout is 10 points, giving up 1-6 points is 7 points, giving up 7-13 points is 4 points, giving up 14-20 points is 1 point, giving up 21-27 points is no points, giving up 28-34 point is a 1 point deduction, and giving up at least 35 points is a 4 point deduction. Elsewhere, sacks are 1 point, interceptions are 2 points, safeties are 2 points, fumble recoveries are 2 points, blocked kicks are 2 points, and touchdowns are 6 points. For Week 9, it was the Los Angeles Rams' defense who took the lead, racking up 7 sacks (7 points), 3 interceptions (6 points)--one of them returned all the way (6 points), blocking a kick (2 points), and giving up 20 points (1 points). A grand total of 22 fantasy points for the Rams defense. It was all about LA when it came to defense, as the Los Angeles Chargers' defense finished second with 18 points.

Out of everyone on that list, I only had Saquon for Week 9. We will definitely see what develops for Week 10, though I already know one name I'll be mentioning on Week 10's list for sure!
