The Transfer Portal College Footballs Free Agency
College Football Now Has Free Agency

College Football is one of the most popular sports in America today and the transfer portal has changed the college football landscape. Is the transfer portal a good thing or a bad thing for college football? Today, we will look at the good, bad, and ugly about it. Many people just love the transfer portal and it can help a team, but also hurt a team as well. Let’s look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of college football’s transfer portal.
What is the transfer portal? It's where college football players can go and transfer from one school to another once they have met the criteria. Now as you can see this can be beneficial to the player and the school he or she is going to. Nowadays loyalty is a thing of the past and players do not want to sit, they want to play football. In a way, you cannot blame them for wanting to see the field. Players come to college for education and to show their talent on the football field. Players no longer want to wait their turn; they want to hit the field right away. This is where the transfer portal becomes a huge factor.

Coaches and college football teams know the transfer portal can make instant improvements to their team. The drawback to this is bringing new players on; established players already on the team could become alienated and want to leave the team you're trying to improve on. Finding the right medium can be tough for coaches looking to improve their teams. Another problem is knowing how long that player will actually stay with the program. Just as you got them from another program they could eventually do the same thing to your program. The transfer portal is basically a free agency for college football these days and players are loving it.
Now most people will tell you that the transfer portal is great for college football, but I also think there is a bad side to it as well. One of the first problems is if a player gets upset you know as a coach it's only a matter of time before he is heading to the transfer portal. Another thing many people have really not thought about is how the system can be compromised pretty easily. Let’s say a player wants to go to College A but no scholarships are available. Technically they could make a deal with a coach to go somewhere else only to transfer later to that program. This means you could technically use all the college resources without ever really planning on playing for them. This is really not fair, but just one way the system can be used and abused.
The transfer portal is a good way to help teams, but I can also see the bad sides of this program. The teams that learn to take advantage of the portal seem to do a lot better than teams who ignore it. College football players love it as it let’s them move on from a program that did not let them play a lot. In the future, I think you will see many changes made to the portal as right now it’s too easy just to move on from one program to another.
No longer are college football players committed to their first choice anymore. Gone are loyalty and players are looking out for themselves. In a way, you cannot blame them if they are talented enough to play at the next level. Players must look for the best program that will utilize their talents. In the end, players must look out for themselves as no one else will these days.
