We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.
What Went Wrong: The Toronto Screwjob
Canada is doomed to be a magnet for screwjobs. First Bret Hart in Montréal, and now, the Toronto Maple Leafs were screwed over on their home ice. The refs really did their best to hand Florida this series. As soon as the Leafs went up 2-0 in the series, the refs really got to work in Games Three and Four. No penalties called on Florida. Panthers getting away with so much obvious shit. The result: a 2-2 series tie entering Game Five, which the Leafs were blasted in. Now, Game Five's not on the refs; the Leafs did not play well. But Game Six proved that when the refs are actually unbiased, the Leafs win.

What Went Wrong: A Tale of Two Hellebuycks
Six teams remained on this day, and half of them were Canadian. I found myself pulling for a Canadian-dominated Final Four, with three of the four teams being from the nation sitting above this one. It's the most that could possibly happen, considering the fact that the Metropolitan Division has no Canadian teams. The Winnipeg Jets actually finished with the best record in the league for the first time in their 26-year franchise history. The team looked like a big favorite to at least get to the Cup Final.

What Went Wrong: 8 + 895 = 1
Well, Capitals, I hope it was worth it. The entire 2024-25 Washington Capitals season seemed to be focused on one thing and one thing only: 895. That was the magic number: 895. Alex Ovechkin entered this on the verge of that record, and boy, did the Capitals really try to get that record for him. They did finally get it for him. Ovi put up #895. He added two more by regular season's end, but in all of this, the Capitals somehow had a great season and managed to finish on top of the entire Eastern Conference. They even won a series for the first time since they lifted Lord Stanley above their heads.

What Went Wrong: Pawns
I will never figure out why the Vegas Golden Knights are always high Stanley Cup favorites, even higher than the Avalanche. "But they won in 2023," you'll say. Yes, they did, but that Cup is sandwiched by some embarrassing playoff defeats. I said this before about playoff streaks and stretches: they can be good, but only if there's depth. For the most part, the Golden Knights' exits have been quite shameful.

John Jay Adds Another Win to their History with Somers
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons below or my venmo is : @Rich-Monetti On Tuesday April 22, John Jay and Somers matched up to continue their long time crosstown rivalry. Very one sided in recent years, the Tuskers were typically not pushovers, and the game remained in doubt throughout. But John Jay still only knows one storyline when it comes to their friends down the road.

2025 Division Finals Preview
Well, folks, the second round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs has arrived, and it's always as very interesting setting. Eight teams with four wins in the playoffs already in their proverbial belt, now standing four wins away from the Final Four, and all trying to obtain the remaining 12 wins to capture the Stanley Cup--the greatest prize in sports. Of the eight remaining teams, only one has never hoisted the Cup in their existence, but the journey will be absolutely amazing.

What Went Wrong: You Have to Play SIXTY Minutes, Blues
This was quite the wild series between the Winnipeg Jets and the St. Louis Blues, wasn't it? The Blues weren't supposed to be here. They were supposed to be in tear it down/rebuilding mode, but a funny thing happened after the Four Nations break: they forgot how to lose games. A huge tear in March that included winning twelve straight games, and all of a sudden, the Blues were in the playoffs just two years after they decided to tear it down.

Somers Chase Falls Short versus Fox Lane
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons or my venmo is : @Rich-Monetti After overcoming an early 3-0 deficit last week versus North Rockland, the Tuskers were in trouble early again when they hosted Fox Lane on Wednesday April 2. Down 4-0 this time, the girls still didn’t give in and eventually took a 9-8 lead. But the chase wasn’t over.

What Went Wrong: Everything's Bigger in Texas, Including the Screwjobs
As a wrestling fan, I know a screwjob when I see one, and on the evening of May 3, 2025, every fan of the Colorado Avalanche saw it. It was loud, live, and in living color. We were cheated out of Game Seven, though let's face facts: the screwjob started from Game Two on.

What Went Wrong: What a Waste
Boy, did you idiots fuck this up! Albert Einstein said it best: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result." Another saying comes to mind: "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled is convincing the world that he doesn't exist." I have a play on that last one. The greatest trick that the Los Angeles Kings ever pulled was convincing everyone, myself included, that they would beat the Edmonton Oilers out this season.
