Shadeur Sanders Stock Drops More
The Sanders Stock Continues the Improbable Landslide

Former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who was widely viewed as a first-round talent by many, still finds himself benched as day two of the NFL draft continues. Skipped in rounds one and two completely, there is a slim hope in the Sanders camp that he could be picked up in round three.
Talk about a stunning fall from grace, the majority of the sports world was surprised to see him still waiting for his name to be called on day two. The news sent shockwaves through the sports world, even catching the attention of President Donald Trump.
Prior to the second round, POTUS commented in a post on his Truth Social platform being critical of teams for not selecting Sanders. He said the quarterback’s “PHENOMENAL GENES” made him “all set for Greatness.” Yet the second round came and went with Sanders’ name was still on the board.

Could it have something to do with the fact that Sanders spent his last four seasons playing for his outspoken, at times polarizing father, and basically only major coach, Hall of Famer Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, first at Jackson State and later at Colorado. Or was his eighth place finish in the Heisman Trophy balloting last season the reason despite his throwing for a school-record 4,134 yards and helping the Buffaloes reach a 9-4 record.
At his peak, there were times where Sanders showed glimpses of his potential future greatness, having been initially rated by many draft analysts as the best QB prospect in this year’s draft class. At time rated even better than Miami’s Cam Ward, who ultimately was taken No. 1 overall by the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately for Sanders, some concerns began to emerge prior to draft day.
One key issue was his protection by the Buffalo line. Sanders was sacked 94 times over his last two college seasons. Among other things, there are also questions about how well he would adapt to playing for someone other than his dad. Not to mention worries about his physical arm strength.

But the unspoken, well at least not publicly, concern was given his high profile and hyped expectations, teams could be reluctant to pick him up as a backup, perhaps thinking that his ego might now be able handle it.
And the last thing any team would want from a player coming in to the organization is to become an immediate disruption.
Or, it could just be that this year's draft was a bit of an anomaly as only two more Quarterbacks were selected in the first round after Cam Ward was selected first. And those selections came very late.
But still, it goes without saying that there were a few taken, who by many sports analyst accounts, were far less talented than Sanders yet were picked up by teams. For instance, one big surprise of the first round was when the New York Giants opted for the quarterback from Ole Miss, Jaxson Dart. Not to say that Dart was not a talented player but with a higher "rated" quarterback still on the board, it was a bit of a surprising move.
At this point, only time will tell for young Shedeur Sanders. Despite where he eventually goes in the draft, it does not take away from the fact that he is a very skilled player and should prove to be a nice addition to some team's roster. One thing is for sure, if/when he is finally selected by a team, you can rest assured he’s going to be set on showing the other teams they made a huge mistake passing on him a la Tom Brady.
And he definitely will do just that.
