The Seven Habits of Highly Mediocre (Hockey Players)
I was recently going through my leadership/professional development binder—a compilation of my own scribbles and thoughts from my time at West Point, and my brief stint as an army officer. In addition, I have several printouts from a variety of mentors with pearls of wisdom from their personal experience and other articles provided by these same mentors. I was looking for potential material to benefit Knight Vision Hockey members, and I stumbled on the perfect article—"The Seven Habits of Highly Mediocre People" written by Mark Sheffert, CEO of Manchester Companies, Inc.

Divisional Round Picks Against the Spread
We have made it to the Divisional Round in the NFL Playoffs. We have made it. On a personal note, I am back from Miami and I am sad. I had such an awesome weekend, generated a nice tan, and now that tan is holding on for dear life. Sad state of affairs. The other sad state of affairs involved my picks for the Wild Card Round where I went 0-3-1 and my only win was a miraculous push by the Seahawks—and the only reason that was the case is because Seattle's kicker went out with an injury so Seattle had to go for the two-point conversion each time (and they were successful). An unreal push, but overall, a very rough week for ya boy and his picks.

The sporting world is one of ambiguity—analytics and data crunching can only get you so far. One must always factor in the human aspect of sports when making an assessment, as difficult as that may be in the ever-evolving landscape of sports.

Should NFL Players Be Allowed to Protest During the National Anthem?
Are you disgusted by the fact that NFL players are protesting the national anthem? If you don’t already know, National Football League players are not protesting the US anthem. They protest for racial equality between minorities and law enforcement. People argue that NFL players should not protest, because it’s just unpatriotic, but the players have the first amendment to back them up. Therefore they should be able to protest.

The Dark Side of Youth Sports
In recent years, organized youth sports participation has been normalized in western society and registration numbers have since peaked. The rise of organized sports has also triggered the rise of elite sports for children. Thousands of children per year join high-performance training programs and teams in an effort to become the best possible athlete and, in many cases, advance to the professional level. Whether these “elite youth sports” do more harm than good for the children playing them is debated by professionals, parents, coaches, and athletes. Having the opportunity to participate in high-performance sports as a child is a unique experience that holds the potential to also be very positive. However, over-involved adults, year-round sport specialization, financial commitments, a lack of freedom, and losing focus of why they are playing are all reasons why young children quit elite sports. In this sense, evidence would suggest that “elite” and “high-performance” sports are more detrimental than beneficial to today’s youth.

LA-Bron: The Good, the Bad, and the Spitting - Part 3
The month of December was not terribly kind to the Los Angeles Lakers. Sure, they finished with an 8-7 record, but this month will be remembered as the one which the Lakers were truly unhealthy. Well, to be honest, the team has rarely been at full strength this entire year, but that was taken to a new extreme this month. But anyways, here's my Lakers breakdown for the month of December.

My Unqualified Hall of Fame Ballot
Let me be perfectly clear. I am not a baseball writer. I am not, and probably will never be a member of the BBWAA. At best, I am a casual baseball fan. That being said, I have become obsessed with the art of selecting baseball's Hall of Famers. The debates are endless. The ballot shaming is in full swing. There are so many factors and stats and points of principle to sift through that you could argue most anyone should at least get a vote. So, it got me thinking. Who would I tick off if I had a vote? After weeks of crunching the numbers (and opening up dozens of Baseball Reference tabs at a time), I have a ballot that I am confident to defend.
