Winners Only: All-Horizon League Awards
First Team Macee Williams - IUPUI - Senior - Forward/Center Macee Williams averaged 17.9 points per game and 9.3 rebounds, both career highs. The 6-2 post player led the conference in field goal percentage with a clip of 52.4. Williams was also the top rebounder in the conference as she led her team to a regular season conference championship.

After a disappointing outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Ishan Kishan has got off to a dream start in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Leading Jharkhand by example, Kishan smashed 173 off just 94 balls to kick start his campaign. In the Elite Group B match against Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand put up a humongous score of 422 after losing the toss.

Suryakumar Yadav’s half-a-decade long wait to don the Indian national jersey is all set to come to an end as the 30-year-old has been rewarded for piling on the runs in both the IPL and in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by being named in team India’s squad for the five-match T20I series versus England. Despite amassing 480 runs in the 2020 edition of the IPL, Suryakumar was overlooked for the T20Is versus Australia, but the Mumbai Indians star, despite not enjoying the greatest of tournaments in SMAT 2020/2021, has found himself in the Indian squad for the England series.

Being Willie Mays
In those two months between the end of grade seven and the beginning of the eighth grade, I was agreeably resigned to spending my summer vacation on the family farm, as I had done every summer in my life to that point. There was no wiggle room for negotiation on the matter anyway. My family had no money for travel and there were so many things to manage, including hogs to look after and plenty of summer field work to be done. So, there always had to be at least one adult around and, one adult realistically meant two and, two meant the kids would be staying put as well. For me there were plenty of house and garden chores to go around and, neither did I mind doing barn chores, like feeding the pigs. I actually looked forward to helping as much as I could with the barn-cleaning each morning – carrying straw-bales and pushing wheel-barrows full of manure. You see, my passion was playing baseball and I believed that all this work would provide me a much-needed opportunity to improve and strengthen my skinny little frame, for the game I loved.

Selling The Out
We played a lot of street football in my neighborhood. I say neighborhood, but it was really just us and the Proctor kids, our nearest neighbors, playing on the semi-rural road between our driveways. Sometimes some other kids might play, but it was pretty much the next-door-down Proctor kids and us, the Balls. That’s right, the Ball kids, mostly my brother and I, were referred to as “The Balls.” And Steve, my beloved “big ball” brother, and I (yup—“little ball”) would play street football with the Proctor boys, Jim and Bruce. Now Jim, the older brother was slim as an eel in Winter— he could have been in our family; Steve and I were always thin, long before our distance running days— and Bruce was much the opposite, and as it turns out, the only actual football player of the lot. We would choose sides, filling in with whatever sisters were around, and play till we couldn’t see the last game-saving long bomb.
