Avalanche Game 45 Recap: Still Finding a Way
Fresh off a devastating loss in Montréal, the Colorado Avalanche were off to Canada's capital, Ottawa, for the second and last meeting with the Ottawa Senators. The first meeting was a memorable one, as it saw Nathan MacKinnon score four goals in that outing. Regarding Part 2, the Avs were still looking to keep pace with the red hot Winnipeg Jets in the Central Division standings, as the loss in Montréal kept the Avs from moving past the Jets.

Avalanche Game 44 Recap: C'est du Hockey
The second leg of the Colorado Avalanche's five-game Eastern road swing sees the team head to Montréal to face off against Les Habitants, the Canadiens. It's amazing. This used to be a provincial rivalry, as the old Quebec Nordiques battled hard against the Canadiens for sixteen seasons before the Nords moved to Denver. Even so, the teams still have a crazy connection, mainly because the Avs have taken some notable names from the Habs, and won Cups with them.

Super Wild Card Weekend Recap: The Inheritance
Over 24 hours have passed, and I still feel like I'm in a wonderful dream. It was Sunday, January 14, 2024, and the Green Bay Packers were heading to Arlington, Texas to face off against the Dallas Cowboys in one of the NFC's three Wild Card Playoff contests. As the game got closer to beginning, I was just drinking in this moment. Jordan Love is in his first playoff game. This is big. No matter what happens from this point, Love has more than proved that he's the man in Green Bay, and he had already exceeded expectations by simply playing in this game.

John Jay Goes into Break with Win Over Roosevelt
On Wednesday December 20, John Jay hosted Roosevelt and were looking to improve on their 1-4 record. The holiday season upon us, a loss would mean a momentum change would have to wait until all the presents were opened. So the Wolves were definitely hoping for the right kind of wrap.

Avalanche Game 43 Recap: The Comeback Kings
It was a day where the NFL took center stage, as this year's Super Wild Card Weekend was underway. Even so, the NHL had a stacked schedule: all 32 teams were in action. Two of them were the Colorado Avalanche and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and they faced each other. That's a marquee matchup, mainly because it pits two of the NHL's biggest stars against each other: Nathan MacKinnon and Auston Matthews. One's climbing the ladder in the points race, the other is leading the league in goals. Giddy--by God--up!

History of the NFL Playoffs (Part V: Wild Card Weekend - 1990-present)
In 1978, the NFL added a second Wild Card spot per conference, which resulted in the birth of a new opening round for the NFL playoffs: the Wild Card Playoff. From 1978 until 1989 (with the exception of the shortened 1982 season), each conference kicked off the playoffs with their Wild Cards (seeded #4 and #5) facing each other, while the three division champions (East, Central, and West) all had byes straight to the Divisional Playoff. The winner would advance to the Divisional Playoff against the #1 seed in the conference, though if the #1 seed was a division foe, the Wild Card Playoff winner would face the #2 team.

The History of the Norris Division
Ever since I learned about the old NHL divisions--the Adams, Patrick, Norris, and Smythe, my fascination with them has increased as time passed by. I do love reading about the Adams Division because I'm a Quebec Nordiques fan, and learning about how they fared in that division back in the day was just amazing. The Patrick Division was spectacular due to the geographical aspect, and while the Smythe Division is a story I'll delve into later, it was definitely an impactful division. The subject of this story is the Norris Division. This one was quite amazing, according to what I've read about the Norris.

NFL Power Rankings Week 18
10. Rams 10-7 The Rams are a dangerous team this year. They are at the bottom of the totem poll in the playoffs, but they made the playoffs, and that is the most important thing. The Rams are one of four Power Teams with Super Bowl experience and one of the two teams that have actually won a Super Bowl. The Rams have already waded through adversity. They are 10-7, and nobody saw that coming. They discovered rockstars like Puca and Kyren along the way.

A Throwback, Somers defeats Kennedy Catholic in Mike DePaoli Basketball Tournament
In the previous century, when Somers and JFK (Kennedy Catholic) matched up, bragging rights made the competing campuses sizzle, and as the son of Somers basketball coach Mike DePaoli, Gerard DePaoli recalled the times at the tournament that bears his father’s name. “It was a little more wild, I remember the way it used to be,” said the 1982 grad on Saturday December 16, and so maybe with a little nostalgia in mind, the Kennedy Catholic-Somers rivalry has been reborn.
