Italian Soccer has declined over the last 20 years, but this crisis may help the country become more competitive
Throughout the 80s and 90s, Italy’s Serie A was the soccer league of reference. It had the best teams, players, coaches and frequently held the world transfer record. Additionally, Italian teams were tough competitors at European level. Between 1952 and 1992, there were only four years when Serie A didn't have the most expensive players. However, over the last 20 years, Italian soccer has lost its lustre driven by revenue decline, corruption and increase cost. Its appeal and international glamour continue to decline, and unsustainable finance, and nepotistic governance practices have drained the league of many of its global stars, brands and trophies. The once-mighty sport seems to be affected by a general lack of innovation, international finance, and new leadership. Just to add a reference point here, some of the Serie A Team’s revenues today are lower that they were 10 years ago, Fiorentina being a good case in point which in 2020 generated 72 million Euros in revenues. Serie A is now the No. 4 ranked league in Europe and the Italian national team has also fallen to 11th in the top 25 rankings having not participated to the last world cup as it did not qualify. On the infrastructure side, over the last ten years, only three new stadiums have been built in Italy, compared with 153 in Europe overall. This was mostly due to lacking financial resources. The current system is not working, and If Italian soccer wants to climb back to its former glory days, it needs to be transformed.

Is MMA going too mainstream?
Back in 1985 in Japan's Shooto organization was started and essentially started as a form of wrestling. As popularity in the sport grew a company named UFC started their own promotion back on November 12, 1993 which was UFC 1. This promotion started as individuals with different fighting styles being matched up against each other and battling it out until a knockout or submission. The Match ups were not always fair and did not always seem to be evenly matched. Match making and other structural house keeping items came later as the promotion gain traction and started to grow. I bring up the promotion growing and want to fast forward to present day. There are SEVERAL different MMA promotions available to fighters and the public in forms of entertainment. Now which one do I chose to follow?

James Massey
James Massey started his football career at Doncaster based football club Denaby United, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday via Doncaster Rovers. He was originally spotted by a club official who, in turn, recommended him to the Sheffield club; the official had been refereeing a game at Loughborough at the time. He persuaded Wednesday to take the 24-year-old on their books and he went straight into the reserve side, which applied their trade in the Yorkshire League. He was a regular in the second string until January 1896 when his first-team break arrived.

WBB2K22: Hoops Report 18
Ole Miss 75, Cincinnati 63 We travelled down to Cincinnati (4-4) on Sunday to get an up close look at Ole Miss (8-1) versus the host Bearcats. We wanted to see Shakira Austin, Ole Miss' 6-5 senior center with our own eyes. She didn't have her most dominating offensive day, scoring just eight points, while shooting 3-7, but we saw her value by being a long, agile player with diverse ability.
