College Sucks and High School Doesn't Matter
College really sucks. Don't get me wrong. I have so much admiration in my heart for academia, school spirit, the connections, all of it; however, it can be a downer. I don't want anyone to read this and think "Wow, college is the worst." It is still an important and pivotal part of growing up and dancing into adulthood. As a college freshman, however, I've had a rude awakening.

The Problem with the School System
I will set this straight right off the bat: this isn't the ramblings of a high school dropout. I graduated from high school with a 4.36 GPA, I rarely skipped school, I found it to be very easy, and I had a lot of friends at school. But therein lies the problem—I hated every second of it. A more appropriate summary then would be the ramblings of the public school poster child.

Benefits of Having a College Degree
When we consider going to college, there are many things that can convince us to go but also many things convincing us not to go to college. Sometimes when we are thinking about going to college we don’t think about the benefits we can receive from a degree. We tend to focus on the negative things that can come from going to college. We should start to consider more positive things than negatives when it comes to a college degree. There are many reasons to go to college; receiving better job opportunities, a chance at earning more money, and being a positive influence on our children and future generations.

How Not to Leave Your Job
We may all sometimes have a fantasy—a dream—about how we will one day leave our jobs. Some picture having a big, catered party with their coworkers, ending in a crescendo of toasts/speeches that go on way too long and hopefully, a lovely parting gift from the company. Others, well, they hope to simply walk out into the night, hoping for no cake, no balloons, no fanfare. These dreams of leaving voluntarily—whether a few months from now, in a year or two, or in a few decades, ending in retirement and a gold watch (well, maybe a fake gold, good knock-off watch from TJ Maxx these days)—are generally of the pleasant variety.

Rebellious Thoughts of a Recent Grad
I grew up with ideals of success repetitively instilled in me harder than a jackhammer on a construction site. My dad always said education is the key to success, which to this day I still don’t doubt. I was fortunate enough to receive an education from the top public university in the world, so by the social norm and, of course, the public’s interpretation, that should mean I attain the golden ticket to a life of immense triumph and corporate hierarchy.
