NWSL Expansion Tracker: April 2018 Edition
The NWSL, the third attempted professional women's soccer league, has started in its 6th season in 2018—the longest ever compared to its processors WUSA 2000-2003 and WPS 2008-2011. Despite the Boston Breakers folding after a failed attempt to get a buyer, the league has proven to become more stable long term thanks to the backing of the USSF and Canadian soccer association on the allocated player rule, and A&E 25 percent equity stake in the league which, in recent years, has gained a lot of interest for ownership groups mainly from MLS looking to expand into NWSL. Utah Royals FC, the newest club to enter the NWSL after FCKC, ceased operations for financial reasons, shifting the league's focus on big markets that have strong ownership groups with MLS ties

Is a Fox a Cat or a Dog?
I was visiting a friend in Gold Hill, Colorado. It's right outside Boulder, but several thousand feet above it, up an unpaved road. The foxes there are so unafraid of people that they come right up to back porches. They'll even eat food if you leave it out for them, or just steal your leather moccasins.

Weird Victorian Beauty Trends That Were Sometimes Fatal
Nothing would make Heathcliff go, "hubba hubba" faster than a ghostly Catherine haunting Wuthering Heights. That's because he was living in an era when the appearance of consumption was conflated with beauty ideals.

Hacks To Revive A Burnt Pan
We all have that one friend who is a total Martha Stewart in the kitchen. They know all the best kitchen hacks to make a delicious meal in seconds, and they never seem to burn anything. In fact, all their pasta magically becomes al dente and they even manage to make a turkey that's not dry for Thanksgiving. If you didn't know any better, you'd think they run one of the best cooking shows out there.

To My Mother
When I was around three or five, I woke up one night screaming. A rash had formed, going from the base of my neck to the bottom of my stomach, and obviously, to me, that was the worst thing in the world. It wouldn’t stop itching, and you and dad were nowhere to be found. So I yelled louder and louder until you came and found me. Dad took me downstairs while you did the laundry until I fell back asleep.

My Own Unhappiness
PMA Growing up, my father used to tell me that the only person making me unhappy was myself. It was infuriating. Some situation or another had me wallowing in self pity, and here comes dear ole dad telling me to get over myself. Getting over yourself is not an easy feat for a sullen teenager. So I shrugged off his advice and continued on my self destructive path, blaming everyone but myself for my discontent.

Wildflowers That You Shouldn't Eat
Just because a plant is beautiful doesn't mean you should put it in your mouth. You might think that's obvious but the worst life hacks you should never try include eating whole containers of nutmeg, drinking Purell, and consuming morning glory seeds just because they can get you drunk or high. People need to be warned about everything! Also, there's no such thing as "obvious."

Ode to the Road
In 2017 I took a road trip around the American west with my girlfriend. The car that took us on the month-long journey was a red Mazda 3 that we affectionately named “Peppa.” Last month, Peppa’s lease ran out and we had to say goodbye. I wanted to take a moment and recognize Peppa’s contribution to our eventful travels by recapping five of the more memorable drives of 2017.
