Dominicana Soy
It is difficult to celebrate a heritage that is constantly rejecting you. You never felt Dominican enough. You always felt a need to overcompensate for some of your “undominican” behavior. You took classes to learn how to dance bachata and salsa. Still, your latinadad was constantly in question. You don’t look Dominican. You don’t sound Dominican. Those words were often spoken to you.

Creatd Inaugural Letter to Shareholders
We said the following 4 years ago... The entire evolution of digital media, and every individual technological advancement, is met with the same questions. Sociologically, every new digital platform is viewed through that same lens: “How can I have my voice heard on the internet? How can I make money on the internet? How can I scale the money I can make on the internet?” Corporate forces and legacy tech architectures do not necessarily advocate for a free, capitalistically-driven internet. It is not a particularly even playing field in the race to internet fame. However, it is also very early in the transition from analog to digital, and advances are coming at an exponential pace.

Celebrating My Spanish Heritage
For my entire life people have always been surprised to learn that I speak Spanish. This is typically followed with something along the lines of "No way, you don't look Spanish at all." I know, right? The blonde hair, blue eyes, it always throws people off. This never bothered me, in fact, quite the opposite. From a young age speaking Spanish was like my secret superpower. I'd love to surprise people with a simple "gracias!" or casually dropping in to conversations in Spanish. On a few occasions I've actually pulled out my cell phone to have a pretend conversation with "Papá" when unsuspecting victims were saying things they probably would have preferred I didn't understand.

Hispanic Heritage Month on Vocal
It was never an unusual sight to see my great grandmother handing out homemade papa rellena to everyone in her Queens neighborhood. The community would pitch in money to buy bulk foods like potato, rice, meat just so they can give it to her to cook it. You may have even seen my grandmother running her own concession stand in the busy bustling streets of Puerto Rico where she would put her own touch on pastelillos that would make anyone stop dead in their tracks just to taste. When I started my own food journey through The Bronx Vegan, it may have been a surprise to my family that I was taking on a new approach to food but when you look at the dedication and passion for food that runs through my family history, this work really isn’t so surprising at all.

Celebrating My Heritage: Sometimes in English, Others in Spanish
When I was around four-years old, my family and I moved into our first rented home in El Paso, Texas, a city a mere mile or so north of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Having moved to El Paso from Juárez two years prior, I was introduced at an early age to the binational, bicultural, and bilingual phenomenon that people living in El Paso and Ciudad Juárez are accustomed to.

How To Workout At Home Without Getting Distracted
I started quarantine off strong with all of my fitness goals written out and on track, I even hosted a monthly challenge in April and May! In April I focused on abs and in May I created a full body circuit. However, as time went on, I slowly fell off track and ultimately just stopped working out. Now, as a professional dancer, my body was NOT happy with me. I grew tight, stiff, and unmotivated.

Wear A Damn Mask and Hug A Tree
Corona has offered many different experiences. The majority of which were unfortunately bad. However others experienced a different kind of journey. One where the sickness started in the mind and the antedote being to face yourself and force a change for the bigger picture. For yourself. And eventually for humanity.

Invisible No Longer
In the 1800’s, when New Zealand was colonised, the ancient and sacred female tattooing practice of moko kauae began to fade away. Its very existence was placed under threat alongside the spiritual culture and identity of Māori. Yet, what was initially thought to be lost by the devastating impact of colonisation, has now begun to blossom once again; meaning that a whole new generation of Māori women can wear their identity with pride.

From Silent Movies to Disney Musicals: A Cinematic History of Lady Warrior Hua Mulan
It's a tale as old as time. No, we're not talking about Beauty and the Beast, but rather, the legend of Hua Mulan, the basis of Disney's classic 1998 animation Mulan and its 2020 live-action epic.

Celebrities, Social Media And Grief: Why Do We Feel We Have A Right To Someone's Private Feelings?
If reports are to be believed, internet trolls have chased yet another famous face off of Social Media. Actress Elizabeth Olsen, best known for playing Wanda Maximoff, aka the Scarlet Witch, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently de-activated her Instagram account. If reports are to be believed, the reason for this is that Olsen was bullied by supposed fans over her failure to post about the death of her Avengers co-star, Chadwick Boseman.

Come and Experience Jewish Culture with Me!
When I was growing up, my family treasured the traditional Jewish culture. My dad is a religious worker at our local synagogue and my mom is an operations manager at a first aid warehouse. Despite the differences in their occupations, my family still cherishes the Jewish cuisine and would eat the food at any time of the year, even if it wasn't a special occasion or Shabbat. During my youth, I would spend Shabbat evenings and days at my dad's house and he would always make or purchase Jewish dishes like Cholent (a beef and beans stew with potatoes and vegetables), Potato Kugel (a potato casserole), Herring (which I abhor), Blintzes (Stuffed Pancakes), Bagels with Lox and Cream Cheese, Vegetable Latkes (Fried Vegetable Fritters) and Kasha with Fried Onions and Noodles (aka Buckwheat with Fried Onions and Noodles) for my brother, our friends, family and myself to feast on. My dad always bought Challah (braided egg bread) from the Kosher bakery or local supermarket: he never baked Challah. Occasionally, my mom would make potato, zucchini and carrot latkes for Hanukkah parties and has concocted the occasional pot of Cholent for when hosted casual gatherings with friends and family at her house.

I'm nothing without Travel Industry
You might think that the title is a bit of exaggeration but let's be honest... It's been half a year since we were forced to "stay home" and I don't see the end of it. Again, you might think I'm exaggerating but we all thought it would be gone by summer. Then the summer came along and somehow nothing changed. Now we are going into the fall and all the restrictions seem to come back, stay the same or simply not go away any time soon. It makes me wonder if the travel industry will survive all of that? Are we ever going to travel the way we used to?
