I have thought long and hard about whether or not I should get into this discussion about the recent attack on the Capitol Building in Washington USA. I am not the best placed person to discuss US politics by a long way even though I do have personal history with the individual called Donald Trump who is currently, although not for much longer, the 45th President of the USA. The photograph above is taken from my TV screen on the night of the 6th of January 2021, 14 days before the inauguration of the next President of the USA.
The USA has long claimed to be a paragon of democracy and integrity despite mounting evidence to the contrary, the last four years have shown a rapid and scary decline even further into what is known as the swamp due to an atmosphere of greed, stupidity and hubris fostered and supported by a large volume of people for what they clearly hoped was their own benefit. This has saddened me greatly as I have family and friends in the US, some agree with me and some disagree, thats is called life. We still manage to get along most of the time.
To see a mob, for there is no other word, directed by the words of their master to march with their guns on the Capitol building and take it back is very sad. This is a situation that has been more than four years in planning, or if not actual planning than build up. There have been a ridiculous amount of stories and misinformation put out by the Trump camp and their supporters from day one about voter fraud and illegal voting. None of it proven nor provable. That has been shown in the latest round of court battles where sixty or more court cases have been brought and summarily dismissed due to lack of evidence. Maybe court skirmishes would have been a better phrase.
I never thought anyone, let alone a sitting President, would effectively push a mob to riot and commit treason against their own administration and yet that is effectively what has just happened to the USA. Even when telling his people to go home he started by stating that the election was rigged. A proven falsehood; he is not the one going to suffer, nor his family and his close allies there by nepotism rather than ability. It will be the general public of the USA that will suffer.
If you think last night was the end of it, I'm afraid you are wrong, it has barely started. Those in the mob who still believe they are in the right will continue to believe they are in the right and, going by last nights actions will continue to 'fight' for their leader. I am afraid that what we saw last night is just the start of a real home grown terrorist movement within the USA. I do not believe that any elected official or state or regional legislature is now safe. They will all be seen as 'legitimate' targets by these who are prepared to kill and maim for their leader.
I am now frightened for my friends and family in the USA in case they like many other innocent people get caught in the cross fire from one group of extremists against another group of extremists. It now up to the people of the USA to step back take a long deep breath and re evaluate what they want their country to look like. It is highly possible one group will want a ressurection of the Confederate states of America, headquartered at Mar e Largo in Florida 'defending' itself against the sovereign nation of the USA as we know it, or what's left of it.
Please be careful what you wish for and for whom, if your unlucky you may actually get it.
On a final note I saw a large number of banners of a snake warning people 'don't tread on me' in the Trump mob last night on TV. I can't help but wonder how many of the evengelical supporters of this President have noted the symbolism. I am not a religous man as I have said before but I do seem to remember the serpent having a role to play in the bible.
Take Care my friends.
