The Good, The Bad,The Political

Praying for our country

So it's that time again.

It feels like we can never truly escape it.

I feel like I am beginning to understand the arguments from both sides of the aisle and can finally see where they are coming from. And that reality terrifies me because this whole race is rooted deep in our human nature of sin. I would even argue both sides are wrong. We are all fighting for the wrong things.

We want power. We want to win. We want this or that. It has become all about us. Nobody ever looks out for the other person. We would rather let them out to the dogs or kick them off the boat to drown than to lose. We want the victory and the power.

And that is what politics have become about. Now you may be thinking this is going to be a political post telling you how to vote or that you should go vote. But really I have no intention of that at all. I hope this is the most unpolitical political post you've read this entire election season. I honestly could care less which side of the political aisle you are on. Wherever you stand you fully believe you are right so no argument is gonna change your mind. Because remember you don't want to change. You want to win. And admitting you were wrong is not winning.

We all make choices in life. Some of those are good, and others are bad. We have consequences for each of our choices. Consequences may not always be bad, but every action will have some sort of reaction. That's just how this life we are in works. A good majority of the United States believes that voting in this election is the biggest choice you will ever make, and if your side loses, the world has lost. We are going up in flames. But the truth is not much will change. You will wake up tomorrow, go to work, run around doing all your errands, eat some food, go to sleep, and do it all again.

You lost and what changed?

We put too much emphasis on people who we think will make a difference but do very little to help people. We get so caught up in the political that we forget there is another world much more powerful than the one we are in. We forget we are created beings. We were created by a God who wants what's best for us. But instead of running towards Him, we choose to run away and try to do life our way. We are prideful humans who want what's best for us even when what we think is best only leads us to live a miserable life.

So before you get into another argument about who should be president, think, is this really going to help build them up? Are the words I'm about to use going to be an encouragement or destroy someone else? We need to transform our pride and desires to win into humility, see how the world doesn't revolve around us, and understand we might not have all the right answers. It takes a lot of humility to admit you might not be right. It takes a lot of humility to see issues from someone else's point of view. It takes a lot of humility to get along with someone who sees the world differently than you.

I would argue that living your life like that is so much more beneficial than living your life in contention, with everyone always being miserable and fighting over who is wrong and right. Let's see the world through the lens of brothers and sisters rather than friends or enemies. Let's get back to a time where we can agree to be friends and still disagree on things.
