So What's Going On Here?
Thoughts of a baby boomer
I have been watching the news since the Covid crisis first started in March of 2020, suffered through the lockdowns and restrictions like everybody else, diligently washed my hands, every time I turned around and masked up.
One morning I walked through a ghost town, deserted streets in the middle of the day, businesses barred up and people in isolation peering out of their windows anxiously, and absorbed the solitude, the lack of hustle bustle and crowds milling about.
Of course I also realized that when business reluctantly shut down, many suffered economic disaster and some never recovered. Heaven forbid, the government would have fewer tax dollars flowing in. Wasn't that the other side of the coin?
With a once in a lifetime motion, governments kicked in with financial assistance to businesses and individuals alike. I had never seen anything like it but wasn't it time the tables were turned and the government gave to us after our years of paying the tax piper? A pandemic will do this to you.
Maybe we were never meant to mine coal or turn huge acres of pristine land into oil sands and float huge barges full of consumer goods from China across the ocean. Maybe taking a break from huge crowds in immense stadiums was a good thing. A shorter work week, less stress and working from home could surely improve our health. For the first time ever we had skies clear of pollution and jets droning overhead.
Could we even return to simpler times? I remember a time when my grandfather lived off his garden, his cows, his chicken coops and the land. Restaurants and hockey games were out of the question for a man of his means who had lived through the Great Depression. Something to think about.
This situation had to come to an end of course. Vaccinations seemed destined to save lives but also to kick start the economy and resume the madness of people scrambling for a living on borrowed time. Once again, we could gather together in mind boggling crowds shoving in our earplugs at concerts and movie theaters while trying to fit 36 hours into 24.
Vaccinations would release pressure on hospital emergency rooms and we were destined to worship modern science as the hero that it was. But since the vaccinations were new and waning immunity seemed inevitable, would we also have to subject ourselves to a lifetime of booster shots every six months for the rest of our lives, following the path of flu shots, I wondered.
How many people were walking around out there who had exceeded immunity? What about those who were vaccinated getting and spreading Covid and even dying from it? Maybe they should get rapid tested as well as unvaccinated people before entering a restaurant or movie theatre.
As break through infections became more common, we were still unsure of what was being injected into our bodies, These were bodies that were supposed to be our own but didn't seem to be anymore. Was this the way it was meant to be? Whatever happened to our respect for our own immune systems? What were we doing to help support our bodies so they could do the job they were designed for?
Somehow, in all of the turmoil, we turned a blind eye to the possible power of natural immune boosters such as sunshine, high dosage Vitamin D3, Vitamin C, Sea Buckthorn, exercise and diet despite encouraging news from scientists worldwide. After all, maintaining good health and immunity took work. It was easier to just get vaccinated wasn't it?
How many people actually knew if they had optimal Vitamin D in their blood or whether they fell short of it? Apparently Covid knew because studies revealed that it hit those with low Vitamin D especially hard. Why was there so little scientific consensus on what an adequate RDA for Vitamin D was? Why weren't more people testing their blood in order to know if they had optimal Vitamin D and what it took to maintain it?
And I wondered. Whatever happened to trusting to God to take care of things? Apparently the Amish never forgot as they went about their lives and left it up to God's will.
I have talked with those who had possible medical reasons for not getting vaccinated and still took a risk and got vaccinated out of fear of losing their jobs. I have compassion for them. And what about those who suffered through horrendous side effects from the vaccine that everyone turned a blind eye to? Because they weren't the majority they were shoved to the side, ignored and ridiculed for being wimps. There were a few who spoke up. Eric Clapton was one of them.
Now there are Covid anti virals. Will this mean that vaccines will become a thing of the past? If you can stay home and pop pills the pressure off the hospitals becomes obvious. What about vaccine mandates and passports? Does anyone have the right to enforce these kind of restrictions? After all, even God does not make ultimatums or take away free will. So what's really going on here?
