Russo-Ukrainian War: Russia suggests it will target NATO countries

United Kingdom could be Russia's next target

"Foreign Secretary Liz Truss warned Vladimir Putin today that the UK was ready to exercise sanctions against Russia if they do not deescalate in its military stance against Ukraine," The Sun newspaper reported.

Russia, with the United Kingdom and several other NATO countries pledging their support to Ukraine's war effort, has suggested NATO countries are legitimate targets. NATO countries, including the United Kingdom, are providing Ukraine with military grade weapons.

It's clear Russia has a real issue with countries backing Ukraine. Russia is known to have struck at least 59 Ukrainian weapon facilities. The facilities were where Ukrainian forces were storing weapons from the United States and European countries. Supplying Ukraine with weapons, from Russia's perspective, could be a bridge too far.

"Russia can strike military targets on the territory of those NATO countries that supply arms to the Kiev regime," Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said. "As far as I understand, Britain is one of those countries."

Russian insinuates did not go unaddressed. Dominic Raab, the U.K.'s Deputy Prime Minister, made his thoughts clear. Raab believes targeting Britain would be "unlawful". Further, noting current attitudes held in various countries, Russia's "pariah status is maintained.

President Vladimir Putin's regime, invading Ukraine on the pretence of carrying out a "special military operation", has been met with sanctions. Nothing world leaders have said seems to say Putin from moving forwards.

"We must learn the lessons from Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. This has to be a catalyst for change to protect the free world," U.K.'s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss tweeted. "We need a new approach based on military strength, economic security and deeper alliances. My speech tonight."

Liz Truss, the U.K.'s Foreign Secretary, has stated Russia's invading forces must be pushed out of "the whole of Ukraine". Territory captured by Russia some eight years ago must be returned. Truss, in an interview with the BBC, addresses "the clearest statement yet of Britain's war aims".

Meanwhile, fighting back, the Ukraine's Air Force forced Russian television off-air when it struck the Kherson TV Tower. Kherson Oblast, situated in southern Ukraine, is occupied by Russian forces. The region is home to approximately 1,016,700 Ukrainians. Kherson city and much of the oblast is under Russian control.

"Russia stroke Kyiv with cruise missiles right when UN Secretary General @antonioguterres and Bulgarian PM @KirilPetkov visit our capital. By this heinous act of barbarism Russia demonstrates once again its attitude towards Ukraine, Europe and the world," tweeted Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba.

"'War is an absurdity in the 21st century,'" tweeted Channel 4 News . "Russia's war against Ukraine is "evil" according to UN Secretary-General -Antonio Guterres - speaking to reporters outside ruined homes in Kyiv."

Kyiv, during a visit by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, was hit by two major explosions. It is not yet known whether Russian military leaders knew Guterres would be in Kyiv. At least ten civilians are injured.

"At a joint press conference with Ukrainian President #VolodymyrZelensky ( @ZelenskyyUa ), visiting @UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres criticised the 15-member Security Council for failing to prevent or end Russia's ongoing war against #Kiev," tweeted IANS.

Russia, on Wednesday, 27 April 2022, revealed its air defences have been shot down. It was suggested Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle, deployed over the Kursk Oblast, had been used to carry out the attack.

"Why is Russia having fires and mysterious blasts at fuel and munitions depots almost every night?" tweeted The Kyiv Independent's defence reporter Illia Ponomarenko. "Now it’s Belgorod Oblast again. Is there a tendency or something?"

An ammunition depot, located in Belgorod Oblast, had been targeted. Ukraine, believing "payback" is warranted, makes it clear "karma" is at work. There is no denying what goes around comes around. Russia's invasion was a huge mistake. Ukraine is not the cake-walk Putin believed.
