It's Time We Grow Up & Stand Up

Why What I Stand For Seems A Long Forgotten Concept

Is it me, or does Bernie look a little red?

The planet is dying. There are just no if's, and's or but's about it. I could go on and on about drought, wildfire, polar melting, but you already know all that. The next person you see, they know too. Same with the person after that and the person after that. Your lover knows. Your boss knows. Your best friend knows, and so does his Mom. Heck, your dog probably knows. Even those who deny how close we are to unstoppable oblivion realize there is harm in our current global expansionist lifestyle; those who mock Greta often mock the air quality in China as well.

The right doesn't care, or at least most of it doesn't. They care about jobs, and money, and economies. Which is something I honestly appreciate, as these are incredibly important structures of our society that we can not operate without. Generally speaking, the left cares more about things like human rights and the environment than placating billionaire's, but during this shift where the Democratic Party has become the party of Hollywood and the rest of the entertainment industry with the Republican Party transforming into the party of blue collar workers and unions nationwide has completely changed the focus of both parties somewhat, and I am terrified about how the environment has been left behind.

Now, instead of marching for the environment, we march for socialism. Instead of marching for the planet, we march for women's rights and social justice. Instead of making sure we have a place to live 100 years from now, we squabble and complain about inequality. There is a saying that when opportunity knocks, to answer the door. The United States of America is the land of opportunity, not the land of free everything; by making our political focus free college for everyone, eliminating student debt, opening our borders (despite a global pandemic happening) and even illegal aliens don't have to pay for healthcare, we're damning not just our chances at political dominance, but the Earth's chances of survival.

The right is never going to go for so much of what the left is demanding nowadays, and while I (more than most might I add) understand the need to fight for these issues we fight for, we have to have a concept of pacing. If we demand far too much that we know we aren't going to get, we are doing nothing but agitating our political opposition, who are then even less likely to take any demand into consideration. Demanding people acknowledge there being 57 genders is not worth us forgetting to fight for the world. As science expands, so will the science behind gender and gender identity. Eventually, everyone will know the truth, if we live long enough to prove it.

What do I stand for? I stand for common sense. I stand for logic. I stand for human rights, but more than anything, I stand for preserving our planet. Without our planet, there is no corruption to stop, there is no cause to fight for, and there is no life. In colonial times we burned women at the stake because we were terrified of witchcraft. Now, in 2020, we have instant global communication and the ability to watch nearly anything that has ever been filmed on your telephone, no matter where you go. Supercomputers are as common now as plague was in the dark ages, so when I imagine where we will be in terms of knowledge and technology in 100 years, I can't help but smile. Science will prove us correct, and we on the left have to understand, that many of these concepts we are arguing for, we aren't the only ones dying on that hill of logic and decency, unfortunately, the planet is too.

Let's focus on what is really important, the environment. I'm not saying I stand for ignoring human rights violations, but I am someone who stands for tackling the most pressing issue first. There is no point in doing an oil change on a car with a blown engine, so let's make saving this planet a priority. While injustice exists in nearly every avenue of our society, it is less now than it has ever been in human history. I believe that trend will continue regardless, because human's want to love. I stand for that improvement, but I will gladly put all development in those fields on hold for our planet. If we don't, what will this planet become?
