Substitute Actor

My little black book story

By Justin AmeyPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

My little black book story focuses on Johnny Jackson III, an underpaid and overworked millennial living in sunny Los Angeles. He's a bay area native. From 2009 to 2013, he attended a prestigious private university in Southern California. After changing his college major three times, Johnny graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication. And $100,000 in student loan debt. He told everyone he met about his dreams of being a big-time Hollywood actor. He admired the charismatic leading men who effortlessly graced the silver screen. As of late 2014, he's working as a substitute teacher between acting gigs. During the day, he taught unruly grade school students. At night, he watched countless hours of film and participated in free improv classes. He was very popular in the class, but his instructor believed he should pay for paid acting classes. As an actor, he was entertaining, but he had no emotional depth. Johnny is handsome and self-absorbed. He had a little black book filled with notes about the women he dated. He wanted to publish a book about his dating history and sell the movie rights for millions of dollars.

Johnny lived with his roommate Chris. Chris was in the tech industry; his little black book had valuable cryptocurrency knowledge. The books were identical. Chris worked in the tech industry, however, but he was a temp employee. He has access to free food and cool events but no access to high salaries and real job security. But Chris works diligently at his job. His manager introduced him to Bitcoin, and he has avidly invested in it ever since. Also, Chris has completed countless odd jobs in exchange for Bitcoin.

During the holidays, Johnny takes a bus ride home to the bay area. He wanted to read his notes for his book during the drive, but he grabbed the crypto notebook by mistake; it's filled with fascinating Bitcoin information. A light bulb goes off in Johnny's head as he reads his roommate's diligent notes. Johnny was also in town for the funeral of Johnny Jackson Sr, his respected grandfather, a war veteran. Thanks to his fantastic life insurance, the elder Jackson had hundreds of thousands of dollars to give away to his loved one. He left $20,000 for each of the grandchildren. Johnny was ecstatic! He thought of everything he could do with the money: buy a fancy new car, pay a writer to write a script inspired by his dating history, or use it as a deposit on a condo.

When Johnny returned to his apartment, he shared the news with Chris. Chris wanted him to invest part of it in Bitcoin. Due to recent information about hacks and scams, Johnny was hesitant. Chris, now the owner of 100 Bitcoins, believed in the decentralized cryptocurrency.

After much back and forth, Johnny bought $10,000 worth of Bitcoin. It was January 2015, and he got 50 Bitcoins at $200 each. He used the rest to buy a new car and pay for acting lessons. Nearly three years later, when Johnny is a slightly more successful actor, the epic Bitcoin bull run takes place (December 2017). As Bitcoin passes $19,000, Johnny's stock is worth nearly a million dollars. He reaches out to Chris, his former roommate, who is now a crypto millionaire. With Chris' help, Johnny sells most of his Bitcoin. He paid off his $100,000 student loan debt and purchased a beautiful $300,000 home in Atlanta, Georgia. Finally, Johnny bought a fancy new sports car. He decided to participate in the booming film economy in the metropolitan destination. Free of his old worries, Johnny dug deeper into his craft, and his acting career finally took off.
