A Research Critique on the Exploration of Blockchain Technology and IPFS Distributed Storage System in UGC Model by Domingo Gaces Samontina, Jr.
Blockchain is a decentralized data management platform that provides immutability; therefore, it is a good choice to support file traceability metadata on a distributed file system like IPFS. We can say that thanks to the great similarity IFPS is the best friend of blockchain. The benefits of IPFS are revolutionizing the current technology sector, causing large companies to implement it in their processes. Netflix, Opera or Chrome are some companies that rely on this technology.

The scope of the research

Introduction

1.1 The Concept and development of UGC
UGC (User Generated Content) was first introduced in 2005 by Mary Meeker, a principal analyst at Morgan Stanley, and the rise of UGC is inextricably linked to the new Internet revolution of Web 2.0.
1.2 UGC platform and content production
The application of UGC platforms with values co-created as the core concept has been quite extensive. Values co-created by users and the platform, e.g. pragmatic value, hedonic value, and user equity, further pro- mote the generation of users’ behavioral intention of making continuous contributions (Duan & Dai, 2018).
The problem faced by the UGC production model

2.1 Difficulty in information verification
The rise of user-generated content (UGC) has transformed the traditional method of disseminating information through professional media.
2.2 Fake News
Users under the User-Generated Content (UGC) model have lower media literacy compared to professional media in the past.
2.3 Difficulties in copyright protection
On October 30, 2018, the Beijing Internet Court conducted a public hearing for the first case it accepted after its establishment.
The methodology used

The application of blockchain technology in the UGC problem

1. "Timestamp" traceability

2. Super nodes mark - cut off the chain of fake news dissemination
3. NFT confirmed copyrights to protect interests of content producers

3. IPFS - Distributed Storage System
4. Decentralized UGC publishing platform
The result and conclusion

Throughout the evolution of media and social progress, innovative technologies have often advanced by addressing existing challenges and reshaping entire industry ecosystems. The development of information technology and the increased accessibility of content production and sharing have given rise to User-Generated Content (UGC) mode. However, the challenges associated with UGC mode have hindered its full potential. The traceability, decentralization, and other features of blockchain and NFT technology offer a promising solution to these challenges and present a new vision for the future of internet content production.
Summary
The UGC model has been widely used in content production on Internet platforms, disrupting the previous model where professional producers and institutions had a monopoly on content production. However, the UGC model also faces challenges in verifying the sources of information, dealing with the spread of false news, protecting copyrights, and providing confirmation. This paper explores a new model of information release, dissemination, verification, and re-dissemination based on blockchain technology, taking advantage of its traceability. It also provides corresponding implementation methods. To address copyright protection, the paper proposes using NFT technology and IPFS application to directly confirm the copyrights of user-produced content and generate unique corresponding digital ownership certificates.
Overall impact of the research to the community

The rise of user-generated content (UGC) platforms like YouTube and TikTok has attracted creators with professional backgrounds and MCN organizations. This has led some experts to define UGC as content that is uploaded to the Internet by users, made available for viewing and sharing by non-closed collection members, and contains original opinions and ideas (Zongchuan & Qingyu, 2022).
Impact of IPFS-Blockchain Integration
The integration of IPFS and blockchain technology results in improved data security, privacy, traceability, and accountability.
Critique and Recommendation
- IFPS
- IPFS and Blockchains
- What is the problem with blockchain data storage? - High Data Volume
- What is the biggest problem in blockchain technology? - Scalability Issues
- What are the problems with blockchain research?
- The traditional membership system and paid subscription model will also be better used in the UGC production model so that the rights and interests of content producers are fully protected
- The research title should be kept brief, with a maximum of 15 words, and it is important to refrain from using the abbreviations for IPFS and UGC in the title.
Strength and Weakness of Blockchain Technology and IPFS Distributed Storage System
Strength
- Enhanced security
- Greater transparency
- Instant traceability
- Increased efficiency and speed
- Automation
Weakness
- Blockchain are the high energy dependence, the difficult process of integration and the implementation's high costs.
