My father enlisted in the Navy when I was about 6 months old. For the next 20 years my life was a series of naval bases and military housing. To this day I'm more at home on a military base than I have ever been in the civilian world, and I'm nearly 59-years-old.

Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery
There can be no doubt that Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery (1887-1976) was one of Britain’s greatest ever military commanders, but it is also beyond dispute that he was one of the most difficult people to work with, a view that was certainly held by his American counterparts during World War II, namely George Patton and Dwight D Eisenhower. Montgomery described himself as being “tiresome” and the epithet seems entirely apt.

I was a military brat. My dad was in the Air Force, and we lived all over the U.S. and the Europe. We lived in the UK, Montana, Florida, Germany, Texas, and New Mexico. At my dad’s last station, we were at Holloman AFB in New Mexico. As my parents knew it was my dad’s last tour before he was going to retire, they bought a little house and planned on staying there permanently.
